The vise/vice makes an extremely solid impression in every respect, as something with so many joints can only do, it weighs about 20kg.

With my standard cleaning method abundant Ballistol universal oil, toothbrush and workshop paper I have not progressed at first, the key lies in the previous application of Carbcleaner, then Ballistol - slowly it gets quite respectable.

I have not yet come across a manufacturer or other origin marking - but it is also not yet completely clean - but the font of the scales already looks like a higher age - although not all scales have the same font!?!?

Another feature: The trapezoidal thread spindle has a right-hand thread, which makes the direction of rotation somewhat counterintuitive, otherwise only my tilting vise with rotatable jaws has that ...

I have not seen another one like it.

I have shown this example of a right-hand threaded spindle in detail in this thread.

Then there is someone very new over in the Benchvice thread, who introduced himself with his copy with fixed jaws a few weeks ago, which could correspond exactly to your copy ....

I’ve decided that retro is the way to go. Throwing away my calculator, and embracing my abacus.

Jeez not seen one of them in years. They used to be everywhere. Ships engine rooms had them.

I think everyone of our era had name badges on tool boxes and lockers made on them when no one was looking

Is the sandwich plastic easy enough to come by? I assume you could pantograph anything if you had a decent enough master to hold the stylus in?

I have 3-4 A4 sheets from a previous project, but no idea what the cost is nowadays.

I’ve seen a couple of photos of engravings done free hand using just a ‘master’ drawing. But yes, everything in my hut shall be labelled to within an inch of its life.

Today I acquired a few bits from a client that was having a dung out. Most of its brand new and he said its a present

A small inverter welder, crawler board, jockey wheel,welding gloves , winch, old vice, welding clamps,chipping hammer, welding helmet and a load of welding rods.

This time I have not cut back on the original quality, but rather accepted one or the other small blemish - both keys are present in one copy each.

What's funny is that the joy about the gained order space for my turning-milling accessories is slightly dampened by the certainty that it will probably not last long either .... and then where with all the stuff?!?!?


Does anyone happen to know the phenomenon????

This was at a local auction listed as a bbq hot plate. Luckily nobody else noticed that the plate was made from 12mm steel, measuring 36"x18". At current prices about £150 of steel but I bought it for just £12. I've checked & it is still perfectly flat so it might gain a set of legs & become a small welding bench with nice stainless steel sides!
