Today I acquired a lithium ion charger. I chose this older model for its slower 1/2 amp charging rate, which should provide a better longevity of useful battery life. Quick overnight delivery also.

I keep finding these ones all over the place, they are thick wall tube and heavy not like the disposable MIG gas ones
but I can't think of anything to make out of them.

For use with air tools, it looks like they could be conveniently linked together to increased the volume capacity of a compressor.

A Milwaukee M18 Fuel router. To be precise I bought it 2 years ago in the US, before they were available in the UK. But I've only just got my hands on it

I bought it because I was about to start building the new kitchen and had lots of dovetails to route. And, a work colleague based out of Chicago was heading to the UK on a work trip and was going to bring it over. Then Covid hit.......

Since then it went from Chicago to Atlanta, then recently from Atlanta, to New York, the Paris, and on Tuesday it arrived into London in another colleagues luggage. Now it's on the train with me for the final leg home.

I could have had it posted but it was over a weight limit that made it expensive, and I didn't think Covid would last this long so could get it home for free.

In the meantime, they started selling them in the UK so I already have one. But another body only router won't go amiss, once I've set it up for dovetails I like to leave it that way until I've finished a batch, having two means I can set them up for pins and tails and use my big corded router for something else.

Today a rather small, rather late tool rescue.

Interesting dialogue -
Q: "How much do you want for it?"
A: "Just give me enough to see that you're not a scrap dealer and have it melted down."

This could be demonstrated quite easily and cheaply.

First of all, something for the wood and soil:

The tin snips are labelled "V2A" - since they are visibly not made of this material, they seem to be intended for cutting V2A sheet metal, though there is no indication of the sheet thickness - so what force I can muster the snips can manage anyway ...?!?

Because of the swing of the handles, the pliers seem to be intended more for twisting and less for cutting ...


A wealth of number and letter punches, some in hand-soldered tin boxes.

Fortunately, these special punch numbers are also suitable for large numbers and the punch letters are in German and English.

Some nice special characters are also included: Large arrow, slash, the small i from the iPhone, continuation punch, small arrow.

A pretty nice little caliper from Mauser:

For a very specific purpose:

The data of the most important metric threads on the caliper is still normal (today, however, probably more to be expected in the form of a sticker).

Here, however, a very specific job was equipped:
Who needs to know at a glance what round or square material weighs in a measured diameter ....
... Building fitter? Incoming goods inspector? ....?

Then there was a bit of watchmaker's tool:

Particularly funny was the inscription on one of the chisels (the bent one, of all things)
"C.-V.-Selbsthärtestahl" for chrome vanadium self-hardening steel.

Not only does this designation certainly come from the marketing office and not from the research department, but the last letter is missing and it has not been lost through wear or the like, it was never there.

Conclusion: A product from the German-speaking world is to be simulated here for the international market, made by people without the slightest knowledge of the German language - this seems to have started quite early.


And a bit of mixed stuff, some of it quite old and some with interesting details.

Nice detail on this rather old 19/22 open-end spanner:
the 19 is embossed, the 22 is raised, so that the mechanic can also feel blindly where which end of this spanner is.

A little bit of everything here ....
strange that this is the first Fiat on-board tool spanner I get to see, given the presumed huge amount there will be of them, as often as they were used ...


A quality chuck, the purpose of which is still not entirely clear to me: On one side you can clamp round or, for example, hexagonal material from 3-16mm, that much is clear .... but at the other end there is then no machine mount, at least none that I know of ...

And I also treated myself to a new pair of pliers, many a time I have wished for a fine pair with a longer reach, yesterday I bought an engine oil filter and the bill looked too measly to get the card out, so I strolled along the tool wall ....

I don't know anything about this manufacturer and haven't had anything from them before (as far as I know ...), let's see ...
