I have discovered eight functions ...

Cleaning and rust removal worked quite well, pitting is clearly visible, but I'm not going to grind the tool to death just to make it pretty.

Anyone have an idea what trade, activity/work this tool might belong to?
What era it might be from?

I've seen one of these used before by a guy who was helping me and my Dad do wire fencing.

Fence construction and maintenance is the only thing I could think of: You have to have several functions right at your fingertips, but you can't lug a lot of stuff around.

Any ideas on era and origin?

Not sure about era, perhaps 1950's, but the screwdriver function is likely to be for installing and removing electrical insulators on posts.

Farmers tool, so basically fencing pliers for hashing and bashing as farmers tend to do

I've had a quick google because I'm a, bored and b, interested and cant find exactly the same. A lot of the older ones seem to be blacksmith made so it might have been produced local to where you got it?

I've had a quick google because I'm a, bored and b, interested and cant find exactly the same. A lot of the older ones seem to be blacksmith made so it might have been produced local to where you got it?

I have the tool from a region in southwestern Germany, where historically a law of inheritance applies where the oldest heir does not inherit the whole farm and has to pay off his siblings (this is how it has been in northern Germany since time immemorial), but where the farm was distributed equally among all the children and the farms continued to shrink over time.

So a lot of people had constant need for all the tools for farming and other trades.

If a single forging, then perhaps made on the basis of semi-finished products, because there are some almost ornate details.

Yes, I've been observing that a lot lately:

"Brand" names are popping up in rough mounds that either have a meaning in German or English, sound like a family name from one of those countries, or are borrowed from formerly great quality names.

And then there is nothing behind them.

To market something in Germany under the manufacturer "STAHL" ~100 years ago would not have made sense, it was rather probably a reference to the fact that the tool was made of steel as opposed to less tempered iron.

Watched the video.
I don't know if it's a typical US close: Read German and think military.

On the much closer thought of fence building he did not come at all.

At the end of the video you can see the stamping in closeup.
" eumschüssel - ermany".
This seems to stand for: "Reumschüssel - Germany"

There was a pliers factory Oskar Reumschüssel & Co.
in Hauptstraße 33, Steinbach-Hallenberg, Thuringia (this would become part of the later GDR)

His tool really seems to be much more noble: with me the handle has no knurling, but the hammer is more pronounced, my tool also seems to be altogether larger one, no marking.
