You want a min of 4 minutes to a max of 8 mins of pre heat.

part# V 53 & 54 are what's often found on the generator tube to hold & soak up the preheat meths prior to you setting it alight

Back in the early 1950's & late into the 1960's we were miles from the nearest electricity poles so we used Optimus chimney & wick paraffin oil lamps in the house & later on HPP lamps both in the house and down in the deep litter chicken huts to increase egg production.
I seem to recall on some of the first HPP lamps we had ( I was four and fascinated by them ) a sort of split cylinder of the asbestos wicking attached to a light weight cross over spring clip some four inches long , you squeezed the clip to open the jaws then slipped it round the generator tub , carefully squeezed out a few drops of meths on to the wick so it didn't drip then ignited it taking the clip off once the lamp got going .

Thrown away non runner, main jet was clogged, fuel hose perished, capacitor was dead and pull start was missing, a rummage in my junk pile came up with all the bits
, + one mini in line fuel filter I always fit to my generators. Starts first pull now.

Yesterday actually,after searching since Christmas,I examined this on Sunday,then did the deal Monday all via phone & online banking with an extremely kind and straight seller.
He even had a manual sent to me via the dealer AND had a box of toys sent for my boys before it arrived.If anyone wants recommendations for a plant dealer,pm me.
