I got this American made imperial wire stripper on Wednesday amongst an assortment of stuff that was being disposed of.

On Thursday my new Knippex 71 41 200 mini bolt cutters arrived to replace my aging cheap and cheerful cutters that have a small nut and bolt to adjust the cutting depth.

And last, but certainly not least, two of these 11 foot long bad boys were delivered today from the local scrap yard for the sum of €200, €100 paid in cash and the other €100 to be paid off bit by bit with scrap metal.
I've had my name on these for nearly two years now and the yard's owners finally got around to dragging them out of the ditch where they had been overgrown with briars and nettles.
I have no immediate use for them, but will eventually.

A new project

I actually have 2 but I want to use this one. The quill is stuck so if it can't be shifted I have a few options using the other for bits or even basing it on the other bike, however this has some nice bits like the pump bracket

Im going to put modern wheels (with whitewall tyres) and modern gears, change the crank and just make it a bit more usable, replace the guards etc

I have another that just needs a pair of tyres and is good to go, will be staying 3 speed etc. This one is too far gone for that

I finally managed to acquire an original copy after looking on line for over 10 years.

£29 posted, but it's the only copy that I've ever seen. I paid Gate £10 for a very poor photocopied PDF around 9 years ago.

We've a few lengths similar to those, keep trying to find a project for them.

The start of a nuclear bunker?

I was thinking I might cut off half of one side flush with the flat surface and use it as a workbench in the nuclear bunker I build with the second girder.

Just back from a quick trip out to get more milk, I saw a skip.
I looked in, builders rubble and a shinny.

I liberated it.



It half works.
It will suck up the fluids. But will not pump it out.

The nozzle hhas been off and there is a one way valve and it is free to move.

Oh well something else to play with.

Thanks to @Tangledfeet a new welder (new to me anyway)

Paton 200A DC Tig/Stick unit and the smaller 5kg reel wire feeder to go with it. Pleasantly surprised at the compactness of the unit

Still waiting on getting the on getting my Gas arrangement sorted and getting the right nozzle for the Flux core, however I couldn't help myself trying out stick as soon as it came into the garage.

Very pleased with the result far easier to dial in down to your amp's than my old Clarke that had a rough guess of you amperage and had to wind it in or out. This inverter unit is much easier to set with a few button presses.

I also found it was easier to weld with starting off the ARC took no effort compared to my transformer technique of scratching it and pulling up to get it to arc and not stick. Produced a alright first bead however i had no time to get used to the setting or even get my steel to a bench just a quick shot on the floor and very pleased with the first time pealer.

Looking forward to playing about with the MIG and even may get a TIG torch for it. Far more possibilities now

For ten quid, some fairly heavy cast iron, I think it was made by the Lion Iron foundry Coventry, could be around late Victorian but need to check that up a bit. Despite the looks someone kept this well in the past, no cracks/splits, the rollers move independently easy and the frame is great. Learned that to get this stuff in and out of a hatchback with a plank on your own requires a run up, brute force and a wee bit of planning

There’s a roller similar to that stuck in our garden, it was there 22 years ago when we moved in & I've never used it! The roller has a crack across it, but it seems ok, I must get shot of it one of these days ....

Some more healing time is needed, but I am well on the mend.
