Im not sure its worthy of a thread but I will post in the made today thread. It will be a 20mm OD, 15mm ID acetal tube, a single magnet stuck to a shaft that slides inside the tube. And a 40mm nylon washer on the shaft to stop swarf following magnet.

I think these 15x8mm magnets might be much stronger than needed, the 8mm dia x 25mm may have been a better option

Im thinking it would be useful a long flat one for sweeping the floor to clean up swarf or grinding dust.

That sounds like a great idea. Years ago I had a bar magnet about 24" long with wheels on the ends which we would push around the jobsites like a wide broom to pick up nails, screws and other undesirable shards of metal; yeah, brilliant idea you have there.

Yeah, that's like it Mr. D, but you would have to use a glove to remove the spoils. Got lucky finding my tractor key with it too. Great tool for bottle cap collectors sweeping sport fields.

When you're in a can plant and somethings goes wrong, machines start to throw cans out - you can end up with a lot of cans needing picking up . . . in a steel plant, walk around with a magnet taped to the end of anything stick shaped, waving it around - amazing how many will stick - then a BANG on the side the bin, and you have an empty stick again ready for more picking up . . . in an aluminium plant . . . shovels, boxes, buckets - anything to scoop them up. You can tell if you are in a plant that can't get to the bottom of its issues . . . snowploughs and large diameter flexible tubes hanging down from the plant scrap vacuum . . .

I think with the one in the ad, you turn the handle which disengages the magnet and your spoils drop off or at least the last one I used did. They tend to be used in food factories as obviously swarf in food or in its packaging is a business killer!

Today I acquired a little gem. Got to thank @awemawson who posted a photo of an old Bantam on the "When I were a Lad" thread. It caught my attention and fired up my interest to get another bike again.
Took the bike for a shakedown run, and noticed it doesn't quite have the horsepower range of my old Harley , but then I'm not planning any long haul rides. I think it will be just fine for those leisurely trips down our back country roads. The front wheel rack worked out ok too.

I think looking at a few posts, if I do replace my current compressor I may run 25mm alcathene (sp?) water pipe and some compression fittings as the materials for the main run will be cheap enough. Alcathene is only £33 for 50m. I'm sure that will cope well enough with 10 bar of air.
Anyone have an opinion?
