I brought some of my dad's old hand tools home yesterday which I need to take pictures of, I am sure TYA and others will be interested but for now here is the little used Ferm, nice play on words there belt sander. They had a Aldi in the village so I am guessing this is an Aldi special.View attachment 218896

I have never felt the need for a belt sander, it will either stay in the box for ever or I could find a way of turning it into a bench sander which might be more useful.

Pictures of the older tools to follow tomorrow.

I have that same belt sander. first one I brought my self.

Been there as well, years ago. I always felt as if I was trespassing on his domain. Most of his tools were long past use, but the ones I did salvage I felt wrong using.

I was always using my dads tools as a kid so it never felt like i was trespassing as such but when they became mine i did feel awkward and retired most of them after a clean up, Some were put in a frame and went on display for my mom as she liked to feel they were still around and after all they earned my dad a house and paid for kids.

The wife picked up on a hint for a birthday present:

Aluminium pushrod tubes (I know I should have had a go at making them myself on the lathe).
So if I get time next weekend, will get fitted to:

A heavy box, delivered by parcelforce (or rather left at front door before playing knock and run )

Like how well this is packaged, some real care gone in to make sure no damage in transit. Even chamfered the edges!

Should run the compressor I picked up a while ago nicely

The wife picked up on a hint for a birthday present: Tell us more about those push rod tubes, I didn't know they were available. Are they cosmetic rust free etc? very interesting. Norm

It was very well made, think I will keep it . The motor is proper old school clarke, the fan and fan shroud are metal! 1.1/8" shaft and silky smooth rotation.

Tried, but failed. The absolute cure is one i did, buy aluminium pushrod cover tubes. They work really well.

I hope they will resolve oil leaks, from the bottom of the pushrod tubes onto the tappet blocks

cant use poison for fear of the dogs getting the corpses.
traps need too much tending - catching one, then losing bait within an hour.
there's two empty houses with massively overgrown gardens a couple of doors down, which i think theyre coming from.
theyre not going to be cleared until the end of summer, and i need to do something now - as theyre getting into the sheds, now

the "mighty hunters" are getting one a day between them.

What do you do with a humane rat once you have caught it? Or is it best not to ask?

"humane" as in "fast kill" (bolt to head) not humane as in "catch + release".
i hate to kill things i'm not going to eat, but we haven't reached "rat on a stick" apocalypse levels yet,
i've had leptospirosis (i think!). I'm not going to risk it again, so they need to be gone .
