Sounds a bit like myself. I’ve recently twice managed to leave the locking wheel nut on both mine and the wife’s car. On mine I was lucky enough to driven about then the next day see it stuck in wheel. On the wife’s car not so lucky as she went to test drive it around the block as put the tools away. Realised the locking wheel nut was missing and on her return it wasn’t in the wheel. Tracing her route, searching the road gutters on both sides of the road I was just about to give up as a lost cause and spotted it on the main road in the opposite direction to where she’d gone.
I’m going to have to start leaving a post it note on the wheel saying “Hey Stupid! Take the locking wheel nut off!”

Hubby did the brakes on the car for me, and then off I went to work. Halfway there, I started to get a funny knocking sound from the offside front wheel, and I finally found somewhere to pull over, and looked underneath the car. I saw a pair of molegrips dangling off a brakepipe, but on the other side from where the noise came from. On inspecting the other wheel, it became obvious that he’d forgotten to tighten the wheel nuts, they were on finger tight. Fortunately, I had a pair of molegrips handy to tighten them, as he hadn’t put the wheel-brace back in the boot.

We had words.

It was ‘The Look’. Way more effective than the tappy foot, as it holds the promise of a future filled with pain.

Today, I shall be acquiring some lovely shiny leather working tools, courtesy of our @The_Yellow_Ardvark, who kindly sent me them to me, when he came across them in his travels. I shall be giving them a bit of a polish and brush up before presenting them to the rest of my work tools today.

Pictures shall follow of these lovely items, and their new home awaits them.

Lost a headlight bezel off the pickup a few yrs ago. I was certain the route I’d lost it on. Only 9miles each way.
Only a bezel you would think. Oh no, they’ve been changed to a pair off a single yr production. Replacements £1600

Yesterday, this chair, free of charge, as you can make out it has a busted seat base and you kind of half fell through it when sat on it.



Friday afternoon task of repair and re-foam and it is now a very comfy dining chair. Leatherwork/reupholstery isn't my strong point so it isn't perfect but happy with it.











Done. The wood work could do with a sand down and re-varnish but that can wait for another day.

I have more space, a friend has gone away.

He had a happy time in the loft, giggling like a child on their birthday.
They have leaned now, if I say "Is it any good to you?" They will get it given to them.

Down side, the loft is more of a mess, a clear bench is not clear and I now have to find homes for more stuff.

Not today but last week, so near enough.

First up a Mitsubishi A series plc rack, old but seriously good kit and might get put to some use in testing or something - I quite enjoy tinkering with this stuff as I don’t do a lot of plc work nowadays. It came with a load of io cards, including some rtd measurement cards and an 8 channel analogue to digital - most new and boxed, most of the rest of it has never been used either by the looks of it. New this would have been in the high hundreds if not over a thousand quid - no one else bid on it so I got it for ..... a fiver!!

Next up was some stuff i picked up from work, our instrument repair centre is moving building so they were throwing loads of stuff out - I got a temperature controller and a dcs rack, but more interestingly this was in the pile earmarked for the bin - an OKI twin iron soldering station with 2 irons and a few spare tips. Well, I say it was in the pile for the skip, at least I think it was

One of my housemates got the PlayStation VR for Christmas. I'm not a gamer by any stretch but the 3d effect was very convincing, I imagine a racing sim would look amazing with it

Well I'm relieved it didn't cost me much.
Support for the dev kit has been dropped.

Managed to find a old sdk and got it working with a 16 year old game.

Takes some getting used to. Makes you feel like your heads being unscrewed when your body expects to feel g force.

Kids were most ammused. My 3yo was baffled. Trying to grab the steering wheel then peeking out before donning the goggles to try again.

Finally got the game tweaked to suit my wheel and updated physics and ready for a proper VR test.

Today I acquired, a 60's or 70's floor polisher with floor sanding attachements, for 12 quid! And it works.

Ok it's not an industrial floor sander, but hiring one is 60 quid a day, and it came with all the attachments and 8 abrasive disks.

More Milwaukee tools. My Stanley tape measure has kinked and jams so time for a replacement and being a Milwaukee fan boy i had to have a look at their offerings. Tape measures aren’t the most exciting tool but they’re used often.
I like it’s metric only on both the upper and underneath, I don’t use imperial. Big clear numbers so quick and easy to read when I don’t have my glasses on. Finger lock cutout so you can so can stop the tape retracting with just your fore finger instead of having to use switch lock all the time. Magnetic tip on the end of the tape and you can extend it nearly 2.5 metres before it starts to drop.
That’s the highlight of my Friday so far and not likely to get any better this weekend as I’m replacing the kitchen ceiling and lighting.

You will think that the magnetic tip is great for metalwork but it's a curse. No matter what you do it gets covered in grinding dust that knocks your measurements out if you forget to clean it. It has caused me to have to recut lengths of steel because they were too short!
