Normally just have a few set squares set to size but this is easier and as accurate.
Other than one bushing sits slightly proud. (loosen grub and reseat) the quality is good

Well I got a chance today to remove the welded parts and then I tested it out.
Not so good so looks like it will be adapted to make an adjustable angle plate.

Maybe I am being dense here, but is that not the underside of the plate? How do those surfaces contribute to the tool's accuracy? The two rollers are the only bits that touch anything when in use. They need to be same diameter, parallel to each other, plane to each other and a known distance apart. Then sit it on the rollers on your magnetic chuck on the surface grinder (with blocking to stop sliding longways) and reface the top.

If there is a warp in the plate then they won't be the exact distance apart if my thinking is correct.

That's very true. Good point. I wonder how much difference that would make in practice. Say the rollers should be 250mm centres (a metric 10" sine plate). I think the indicator was showing 0.2mm TIR. So if you have an arc 250mm long, with 0.2mm deflection at midpoint, what is the chord length?
I just cheated and drew a 250mm chord with 0.2mm offset at centre. This gives an arc length of 250.0004, but the shortening above would be of similar order of magnitude.
Some of the old textbooks go into good detail on sources of error in sine plates (roller diameter, roller spacing, gauge block stack height). Some of these errors are less critical than others.

The twist however, according to the quick and dirty test, is not the same on both sides, it is a different amount and at different points along the length. That would suggest that the rollers would likely not be in the same plane. I have not tested for that however.

Ordered this chainsaw chain sharpener a few days ago after killing the new chain on some embedded barbed wire (GRRRR....), it arrived today and after about 5 minutes filing - 3 strokes per tooth - the chain cuts better than new!
I went for the cheap Chinese copy off eBay, £11 delivered - instead of the proper Stihl tool at £30 so I'm very happy with it.

Not quite acquired it, it's waiting for me in reception at work so I won't get my sweaty mitts on it until tomorrow at 8 o'clock, but a new musical instrument will soon be mine.
I assume it is a Ukulele or possibly banjo?

Mine came in very handy yesterday when I had a delivery to a sewage treatment works near Wisbech.
The access road was single track with no passing places that runs alongside the river Nene just north of Wisbech, and a load of Roger Warnes lads were near the works loading beet for Newark. All of them and the shovel driver were on channel 17, so I joined in and had some hilarious banter with them, but it made life a whole lot easier knowing the road was clear.
I'm still mystified as to why CB fell out of fashion, I think it's one of the best forms of communication there is.

I bought one thinking it would be worthwhile. At any distance further than I could spit, the dot was invisible, and I'd have had more accuracy spitting anyway.
