There used to be a pub in Doncaster called the Hallcross, maybe still is, probably 15+ years since I've bern there. They had a beer called Old Perpendicular which was a strong ale, but I think it was too close to Theakston's Old Peculiar so they had to stop selling it. About the same time, they had a very strong beer called Saxon's Ruin, if you could drink four pints you got a tee-shirt. They had to stop selling it as there were the bodies of semi comatose hells angels and other bearded gut buckets lying all around Doncaster who tried and failed, ending up rolling around in pavement pizzas.

Sold my Mach 5's on eBay for a very nice sum of money so started collecting bits for my Cherokee project

Set of 8x16 steels with -25mm offset, tyres were what I pulled off the Mach 5's before I sold them and will do for now



Forgot to post this at the time, picked up a pair of diesel XJ's a little while ago, both for spares and dirt cheap, this was one of them, it is seriously rotten but has a cracking engine, the other one has a duff gearbox but the bodywork is very good

That one was complete with battery and charger for £200. @MBB I am hoping it will lift onto the first shelf in the containers before the mast clumps the ceiling, they are high cube containers.

Ive upgraded a Maglite with a LED Bulb......its brighter but still not as bright as my £5 chinese ebay jobby

Today i acquired a letter from the DVLA saying my 56 import beetle that had recently been inspected had been given an age related number

Called up the local waste site to donate a new waxing kit that the wife had never used (still boxed) as they have a charity shop there. Clocked this YAMAHA RGXA2 guitar missing one string and the volume control knob. Asked how much and bartered until I scored it for £37.50. He said he’d seen one used on eBay for £100 but they were obviously there to recycle used equipment primarily and to make some money but still provide a bargain so they’d marked it at £50 but we’re happy to haggle. When I checked eBay they were £700 plus when new and still selling for £240! Result.......not selling though but still pleased.

Spent an hour or two this evening going through it with my usual cleaning regime starting with brasso rubbed into the fretboard to lift the grubbiness and polish the brass frets and to lift the marks from the body and pickups, Jim Dunlop lemon oil to treat the wood, fast fret to condition the neck then Mr Sheen to polish the body before a new set of strings.

Today, [well yesterday] I acquired a letter from the hospital Patients Appointment Dept, asking me to call them to arrange an appointment at Cardiology [been breathless with any exertion of late].

Called just after 9 [I had to force myself to do a shop today ] to get the usual automated reply. Here we go, thinks I. But no, after a couple of minutes, a very pleasant lass from the Western Isles, [@cheb always a good sign in my book ] answered. After the usual ID checks, I apologised for bothering her so soon into her working day , smooth talking git that I am..... it went like this:

Me: You've probably not got your coat off yet?
Her [laughing]: No, Mr R, not a problem. Let me look at your file for a moment.....tap....tap....I can offer you an appointment on the 23rd...
Me [having quickly worked that 23rd Dec is a Monday and thinking January, as the local Surgery had indicated] "Of?"
Her: "November"
Me: "November, that's Saturday this week"
Her: "Would 2pm be suitable for an appointment with Dr H?"
Me: "I'll be there, thank you very much! How long do these appointments usually last?
Her: "About half an hour"

I was aware that Highland Region have been shipping Doctors in from all over to make inroads into the backlog, to the extent that they're now performing operations 6 days a week.

Nicola would be SO proud..... The NHS can be very special when needed I may well end up on an exercise bike......

That's very reasonable & not much more than a decent manual pallet fetches over here plus it's lots more useful. I'll have to keep a look out for one.
