Today I acquired...........

Yesterday I aquired a door shaped hole in the side of my van.
Door didnt latch properly and slinging it from rev to forward with enthusiasm took it off its runners. (Worn rollers didnt help)
Had to take the bottom bracket off and slide in manually as the bottom of the door is deformed.
Can probably bash it back short term but a new door is in order.

Ok a long post or two.

Won this on ebay and collected tonight.
Means I can finish my model L.
Somebody carefully milled inserts to the v and flat for use on another lathe but looks to be removable.
Chaps dad was a metalworking teacher and has unfortunately gone to a home.
Couldnt resist taking extra cash when I heard.

5 hours driving and £160 all in.
Could have given less but wanted to be fair.
Won the cross/compound for 60 so a ton for everything else.

Nice haul you got there Elusivemite. The sloping thing with the stepped sliding section is a planer gauge. Dunno what the angled block with the long threaded wing nut is though.

Little grub near my fingers adjusts height. Some kind of measuring equipment I assumed.

Ref. the nail puller - commonly called a Bahco 38 Nail Puller: the sliding handle is quite a loose fit on the main shaft. It is used as a hammer, sliding up and down to force the two jaws into a floorboard on either side of the head of a cut nail, and also can be extended to provide maximum leverage when pulling the nail out. I recently bought a load of floor joists from a Victorian house in Oxford. They were peppered with cut nails; the Bahco never failed once getting them out.

Excuse the quality. Phones dead and the old iPad is poor for them.

Whole assembly on top is hinged and sprung so undoing the adjustment screw it descends.
Scribe makes sense. There's a 2mm ish hole on the top thumbscrew shaft.

Its correct name is a surface gauge

Yeah it's a surface gauge and the stem is in upside-down. The ball is supposed to be at the bottom though almost every one I see has it at the top.
