A new floor.

Eldest son was a bit disappointed when ripping up the old carpet to find that the floor of the dining room in the Edwardian house he's just bought was made up of 8' x 4' flooring sheets.

So today we started to plan on how to replace it.

Surprise, surprise - original floor still underneath!

A couple of hours later:






Just need to hire an industrial floor sander, replace a few boards where the the fireplace used to be, uplift the sockets + re-fit the skirting and the jobs a good 'un!

Those front legs won't hold much at that angle.....

All 6 legs are 100x200 oak sleepers. The bit of angled wood was as slim suggested a prop. Not fixed to wall and no supports fitted as yet and its rock solid. Braced and fixed its going nowhere.

Rufforth Autojumble today.
6" files were £1.50 ea or 4 for £5 and the 8" was £2. All going to work with me.
DTI for the garage.
And the taps... well, I asked the guy what he wanted for them (bearing in mind they're all good brands, Lyndon, Volkel and a few Goliaths) and he said £2. Now I only needed an M8, so I replied "Per tap?" he said "No mate per little box"....
Well the M4 and the M8 set are just that, first, second and bottom, there's the 6 M5's and 3 M6's so I picked all them out and said "I make that £8" (just to make clear it was definately £2 a box) and as he handed me my £2 change he said "You might as well take the rest of them too" Even gave me a bag!
So I got the blue box of Goliath M4s (2#) and the green thing with an M8 and a 5/16thBSW, the two random Swedish blacked ones (M5 and M6).
M6 black box had two 1/4"BSW in it too, could be handy.
Three lathe tools £1 each, will be reshaped for hand shaper.

They are Barrows patent secateurs from 1902, find a pair and you can easily sell them for £50, they're thin on the ground and excellent for pruning roses.

Instead of using a scissor action to cut, the blade slides downwards like a guillotine, and is released by a spring. Its a great example of British over-engineering, and a fun thing to have with the garden tools.

Not really sure tbh. I like them because they're funky and different. A cut is much of a muchness really, I think these are just a different method. They're more complex to make and use more processes which is probably why the scissor type ones succeeded - ie multiple riveted parts, however you can removed the blade entirely and replace it which I do like.

I actually wrote to Footprint Tools of Sheffield when they were advertising that they could make parts to order with the intention of getting some blades made. Sent them dimensions, never heard back. Disappointing really when you try to support British industry and the customer service is lousy.

The shop where I bought them had a little card tied to them with the description 'hay bale string cutters' (totally wrong!) and a Tyzack silage knife with the little card reading 'water-race trench cutting tool'. I love seeing people attribute funny descriptions to tools that are waaaaay off!

Parcels are usually waiting for me after work. There's always 2 Stanley knife's in my pocket I use to open them. He got a fake Stanley knife in a tool kit for his birthday a few weeks ago and used it to open his other presents.

Bit the bullet and took advantage of the Halfrauds offer on storage.

A finished bench. Ran a little short on materials. Free bench so can't complain. Very solid. Shelves still to remove for clearances when the mill gets lofted up there. End result. I've got the mill in a position I can start working on it at last. Wiring it up for a test later.

I got this it runs ok but unsure if the variable speed works, The plate on the gearbox says 3-27?

SIP table saw, well not today. but due to a misplaced camera lead it had to wait until I found said lead.

I was given it as I quote:
" new blade does not cut square and it wobbles"

Striped the blade and red blade cover. turns out the 2 blade washers were fitted incorrectly.

The damage fence needs a new release handle, well a 10mm spanner will do until I can make on.
