It works.

Yes those with clean eyes and good memory can see the grinder and my fan. That fan got my furnace hot enough to melt steel. Plus the crucible.

You melted a crucible in the home workshop with a forge blower to increase the heat. Sorry but I can't believe that. The kinds of maintained temperatures you're talking about are just not possible at home, unless you have a dedicated melt shop.

There was posted image of my steel melt in one of my post, so there is evidence.
Ok it was not 100%, but I did get steell to melt.

The crucible was a home made attempt and I know it was not really suitable for steel, but it worked.

I melt/burn crucibles regularly in my charcoal furnace.
Should really get some proper crucibles, rather than use cutdown disposable weldgas cylinders.

This one takes my collection to 5 so far.

Record Auto Vice 74. It's in ace condition, just dirty. Swivel base is missing. Google tells me that this is one of the earlier better ones and is made of steel. 4" jaws with inbuilt anvil on the back. Two holes are for holding valve stems

What would the purpose be for holding the valve stems ? Maybe to scrape carbon off ?

Or scraps of old tub welded together and slapped with some cheep clay. They are good enough to give prove of concept.

But as I was doing mine wit little or no money out lay. I think I did good.

Never figured out the reasoning either. That's definitely an older one you have. The diagonal writing versus horizontal on the newer ones is the main giveaway. The newer ones looked a bit cheesy in comparison.

Nice Crazy rabbits pages show more details it should have a cylinder head holding stud too.
I nearly bought one once but it wasn't cheap and I do all ready have a few vices
