Out for a walk this morning and came across a bootsale, usual junk but spotted this, It shifts an unbelievable mount of air and will make a nice little blower / extractor to get rid of dust and smoke out of the workshop, only three quid, bargain.

Yes I know what its for, the fans remote from the motor, its a bit better than the central heating blower that I'm currently using where the motor is in the airflow, but even that has lasted for many years without problems,

correct light dust will be ok but not in large amounts

that's easy solved block off a bit of the outlet and it will just spin the air inside and only let half the amount out

Oh interesting I've seen machinist cases lined with felt so assumed it was the go-to.

When I get around to it I'll line my drawers with this stuff. Got given a big roll of similar a few years back.

I decided to use a hairdryer instead

I used a hairdryer for a while too - it worked fine. I upgraded to a 3 speed heater blower motor from a Citroen Saxo in the end and that's been much more controllable. The duty cycle is better too!

Boot fair score this morning £20.

The ironmongery and reservoirs are going in the skip, the wheel on eBay. This is going to be fitted with diamond lapping discs to make it a carbide scraper sharpener.

These are amazing for sharp chisels, I try and keep mine like razors but with the people i have a round me i have to watch as they get sliced just picking them up lol

Yes, the usual problem is spinning them slow enough. I currently use them on my bench grinder but you have to be very careful not to burn them up. This will make the discs last many times longer.

Good move keeping them away from the damp places. I hear it's nigh on impossible to get felt right once it's been damp. I'll be putting that theory to the test at some point though. There's a sideboard like unit through in my dads shed which has suffered water damage due to a leaking roof in his shed. That'll be coming here when I can make a spot for it. That belonged to an engineers, so has felt lined drawers. I'm hoping to retain the original felt if I can, so I'll get first hand knowledge of what's plausible.
