...a bit less money in my current account this morning after paying the balance for my next dive trip.

Getting very excited now at the prospect of the long drive up to Kinlochbervie next Saturday, and spending a much needed week in the company of like-minded souls, chilling and enjoying all that’s good about the northwest tip of Scotland. And probably calling in at Dalwhinnie on the way up for a bottle of their finest .

Today I spent some of may tax money ina dentist, having surgery.

I got 12 stiches.
I got many injections.
I also got lots of pills.

But only half a hole.

Dam tooth fractured and is now in need of surgery to remove, but one root did a bit of damaged.
It has made a hole into my sinus cavity.

So I have a form of 2 pack in the hole, stiches and a diet.

Worse is to come.

Mrs TYA would not stop and let me rummage in a second hand shop on way home.

Never seen one before, reminds me of the lazy mans valve grinder gadget with a rubber sucker on the end, drill powered valve lapper. @Stueeee will remember them

Haha, yes I certainly do remember them. An elderly relative gave one to me back in the 80s. it did about half a cylinder head's worth of valves before packing in. when I took it to bits to find out why, pretty well all the 'works' inside were plastic.

The two steps forward, one step back valve grinder idea has obviously been round for a long time, I bought this device for $2 at a US swapmeet (that'd be an Autojumble to us) It has a kind of screwdriver blade on the end to fit in Ford Model 'T' era valves. I bought it as a curio, but it still works just fine and does have a quality feel about it

these days I use a Black & Decker grinder to do the valves and a B & D Vibrocentric widget on the seats, as long as the stones are dressed with a diamond before getting to work, there's not really any need to use grinding paste after doing the valves and seats. I restored this machine a few years ago.

the Vibrocentric power unit lives in the base, the other bits and bobs are in the drawer. Quality spares for these machines are still available from a bloke in the US.

The B & D valve refacing machine also allows the top of the valve to be faced shortening the stem , very handy when overhauling OHC cylinder heads that use shims ,when on a very tight budget Just assemble the cam, followers and shims,put each valve in turn and measure the tappet clearance and face valve stem accordingly

Indeed, concern noted and apppreciated .

I admit to being a complete dawdler when it comes to holidays, and with no tachograph to watch and time to chill I seek out the less travelled roads. Usual route to Kinlochbervie is over the Cromarty Bridge, then leave the A9 at Alness and head north to pick up the road to Bonar Bridge and Lairg, then the A838 to Laxford Bridge, and the last stretch to the harbour. (I delivered a telecom tower to a site north of Lairg 2 winters ago, across the road from Loch Shin. Left Stirling at daft o’clock to get there, and overnight it had dumped about a foot of snow around Lairg. Yours truly was the first vehicle up the road and it was epic stuff, probably the nearest I’ll get to “Ice Road Truckers” ).

Arguably the road north from Ullapool via Inchnadamph and over Kylesku Bridge wins hand down for scenery, it’s jaw droppingly stunning imo, but I’m prepared to sacrifice that for a more peaceful trip.

Yesterday actually , but only got decent pics today due to weather. I have a good friend who's coming up to a 'significant' birthday and what do you give someone who's at the age where they probably have everything they need?

Having scratched my head [yes, there were splinters ] I hit on the idea of approaching forum Member @BirdmanJohn to see if I could commission one of his birds, which I've been admiring since he started letting us see his creations.

He's been good enough to make a Kingfisher for me and I have to say that it's even better in the flesh feathers than they look in his excellent videos. He also offered to make a 'personal' YT video of the build so that the recipient can share with friends, which is a nice touch.

I found him very approachable and open to ideas so would have no hesitation in recommending his work to others [no, I'm not on commission ]. He gave a bit of his background in welding/creating and the results are even more impressive given what I now know! Anyhoo, pics speak better [note I remember the obligatory mug this time......

I may actually have a keypad to fit that VFD.
If I still have it and if it is the right one you can have it for the cost of post. Will check tomorrow if I remember.

Ouch ! had several roots split & eventually shatter due to the meds I was taking nearly 20 years ago . Over five or six years several teeth lost the outer enamel and ended up like a bundle of vertical straws then split & got infected . I've never felt so ill in my life it wasn't until the dentist told me what was wrong with five teeth (that I immediately agreed he should take out ) that I had an inkling it was my teeth causing the long term illness problem . Two weeks after they were removed , normal service was resumed with vigour .

Hope your recovery is just as phenomenal .

Got it a long time ago only pulled it outa the box yesterday owl boy in work had 2 gave me one . Small bit broke off edge on one side but doesn’t effect it atal
