If it were me, I would absolutely saturate the splits with super glue. I've done this to a few wood items that have split or completely come apart, and got to say I was very happy with the result. I believe the super glue attains a deeper penetration into the fibers for a better bond effect than wood or other glues.

it also appears to be the standard way of strengthening wood before/during turning.
unless you fork out a fortune for "cactus juice" and a pressure pot.

I buy Super Glue at the Pound Shop, and lately it comes in a pack of seven small toothpaste size tubes. I can't tell the difference between it and the name branded stuff; both stick my fingers together equally bad.

Send to a specialist to sharpen but found it was false economy as never lasted as long.

Managed to get hold of a local supplier who at the time (2year ago) bought bulk and selling packs of 10 for less than £30.
Made much more sence and still have a couple new bits in the tool box.

As long as you’ve got a nice square fine wheel on the bench grinder they can be sharpened reasonably quickly. When I’m taking the inner wings off Minis I can normally do 15-20 on one sharpening.
It’s always worth centre punching the weld as well because such a flat faced bit can wonder without something to keep the point in place.

I picked up a nice 29.5” long 130KG anvil and a big iron bollard over the weekend. They should be good for some future metal shaping.

I’m going to see if I can weld or bolt the bollard onto a round base to make it a bit easier to move around the workshop.

When I got it the specification for it told me the O/P volts were very low 30v.
Plus, if you read the writing on the lower RHS it gave the real use of it.




The meter is used to test explosives detonating circuits.

@daleyd You may recall the ones what were in the red leather case and carried by the "Dem Team".
I know in a pinch we could use them to encourage certain items to go away.

The meter is fully working and was last calibrated in 1987.

Have you checked the repeatability accuracy by measuring a two pound coin dimeter several times in a minute.
My Aldi special ( the second one in about eight years ) is all over the place by reading number five . Leave it to cool for five min and you get two good same readings

So for quick lathe readings I've ended up buying a manual Vernier caliper from someone in Poland for a tenner , checked it on three G frame mic test pieces on 25 , 50 & 75 mm...….. its spot on . Readings are to +- 0.02 at 19 oC

There for quick thickness checks in work nothing major . Have proper ones for when needed as well but I’d be very annoyed if the good stuff was left in the yard .
For €10 euro with spare battery if it’s lost or broke it won’t bother me the ones we keep for precise jobs are €175 can’t remember the make
