Today I acquired some heavy metal.

Today I gave said heavy metal to some one.

But, today I acquired a bit of folding paper, I have bean told it can be traded for beer tokens.

Down side I had to tidy the works van a bit.

The site I was at is being split into 2 sites. The old car park and loading area is being sold for houses. It is being cleared of everything. Trees, top soil, weeds and metal.

This is what I saved.






A wet stone, but the wooden trough has long rotted away.
It did turn, but you could feel the age in it.



Hand pulled lawn roller.
The manufacture boss is corroded and the details can not be read. Plus the crack goes all the way through, plus extends further on the other side.



This roller was very heavy, but it did rotate.
All the way into the van.


Why did I get them?

They were destined to be cut up and scraped. Something I could not see.

Do I have a use for them, or the space to keep them?

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shame.

So what happened to them?

Due to "Hmmm heavy traffic", (not to mention a heavy van) I had to detour.
Right past a decent salvage yard.
This yard I know will either restore them, preserve them and sell them on.


I got a piece of paper for them. With some decent numbers on them.

Drove past this for the past 2 days, so knocked on the door.
A quick question, "what's happening with it"
And the answer I got was,
"Moving house buddy, got another hoover. Take it if you want it works perfectly just don't have the floor lance"

That Art Deco MEM gear is beautiful stuff indeed. A lot makes its way onto the market as key safes/other ‘vintage industrial’ tat wire brushed to oblivion. Sandblasting is particularly effective for cleaning these

Today I need a "Grin-Ectomy".

Another site, another nearly empty van. Plus the words from the site owner:
"Help your self young man"

I like the young man bit.

This is what I was allowed to help myself to.



Not much. But put aside for weekend collection is the pile of trellis, a few decent lengths of beech.
Plus a few good bundles of wood suitable for fires and converting into charcoal. I will be busy for a few weeks.



I had 2 wheel borrows away. The metal one and one green plastic. Yes I left the rest.

The metal round thing is a device for bagging Christmas trees.
I left that





But in front of the Christmas tree bagger was a lawn sprinkler for feed and weed killers.
That was looked at and sadly left, it was to badly rusted.
But I did place to one side enough racking for 2 decent size racks.

EDIT.
There was much more I could help my self too. But as I want to be able to do it again I left a lot of timber and metal.


But, what went into the van?
Did I part with money?

Yes, I parted with money.
Yes something came home in the van.

I’d have taken some trellis, too. That stuff costs so much money it’s beyond belief!

Couple of years back I gave a mate a lift to Welling garden city to buy a bike. The house next door had a Henry dumped outside. The homeowner said that if it killed me, I wasn't to come back to him

The mains cable was knackered because it had been used without being unreeled, a common problem; they get too hot. Easy fix, nice shop Hoover.

Have a new henry in the garage but the old one just wont die.
10 years or more old and run with no bags all its life.

Work hoover. Sucking up concrete, screws, sawdust etc.

Today I acquired some nice stuff and 2 fire lighters.

Fire Lighter 1.



Yes, another multi-way plug adaptor.
This one was plugged into a 100m extension lead, only 2 meters was uncoiled. It was being used to power 4 dehumidifiers.
The 3 core cable was so damaged I could not uncoil the lead.
It was tripping the trip and the sight could not work out why.

12 way computer multi-way extension lead.
Nowt wrong with them.
In the right place and environment.

This one was not.
Draped over a ceiling I beam. You can see the UV bleaching. The issues was:

Internal 5 am fuse replaced with a 13amp fuse, plug fuse had a length of a thick fuse wire instead of a fuse.




That's the rust stain, you can imagine the mess inside.

The site now do not have 10 cooling fans in roof void.

When asked why they had that many.

Oh we were told if we chill the ceiling and roof voids the air con works better.

I kindly pointed out the open windows, doors and the fact the air con had tripped the breaker.

I was on site to investigate Fire alarm issues.

That is a case were even @Parm would put his head in hands and weep.



Oh yes I did "Liberate" the Stanley stowage box.

These are the kind of cast iron ones I look out for , you can see the back of them even has a groove for a fire rope seal.

This one is off a giant woodworking machine base.

Err that rope seal if original is almost certainly asbestos!
Nice old castings though.

This is the rest of my haul today.

Another axe, looked like a Draper Took Axe.
It is in Fact a Stanley axe, the paint is original. So I have so research to do.




Old fashioned roofers hammer. Tidy, but head needs to be re-secured to make it safe.
