Planning Officer has been and I've had an email from his boss

I need to apply for retrospective planning for the retaining wall and change of ground level, that'll be £460 please!

If I decide not to apply for planning approval then it all has to come down

So today I acquired a bill for £460 plus some forms to fill out

Look up "Non material chamge application" for your area. Normally free to apply. And how long was the work done? If over a certain no of years (5 or 6 something like that depending on district) it may be immune from enforcement anyway.

Basically you may not even need to apply in the first place so check it out before proceeding.

An MOT on the Alfa this morning £40

£53 for the scrap in the trailer I dragged to the scrapyard behind the Alfa

A full tank of fuel for the Alfa on the way back from the scrapyard £82 - it's been running since last Saturday on the fuel I put in it last March.

Yeah I have no problem using files, and I dont really have the space for it...
I'd have thought this would be quicker and sharper, and if adjusted well shouldnt take off any more than a file.

Tbh I thought it will be great for sharpening other tools and will fit the diamond wheels I have.
The chain holder easily unbolts so I could make up something to hold other stuff.

Not quicker as you have to remove the chain to sharpen it on the Lidl unit. If the teeth are different lengths, either due to wear or having to file a damaged tooth you'll find yourself constantly adjusting the jig to get all teeth sharpened. It also leaves a ragged edge that requires finishing with a file anyway if you want a nice smooth razor sharp edge.

It only takes a few seconds per tooth to give each tooth a couple of strokes with a file with the chain on the saw. By the time you've removed the chain & set it up in the grinder you'd have it sharpened with the file!

I have spare chains and they get swapped often, if they get dirty they need a proper clean anyway - soak in diesel for half hour. Recently been cutting a stump and plenty of mud has stuck in the links.

I got to use the pry bars yesterday and they’re really good to use. Plenty of grip at the handle, didn’t detect any flex but wasn’t going overboard either. Bargain for the price

Got this to replace my welded up Record of a similar size that due to the welding the jaws didn't line up right on. This should be much better.

A tubular/greenhouse heater to try, in the workshop. Only a 55W unit. Main purpose is just incase temps drop, to try & stop the dehumidifier freezing. Happened a couple of times last winter.

I think the couriers here are trying to give me a hint to stop ordering machines/heavy'ish stuff. This is a protection piece which slots over the dust collector port for transit, to hopefully stop errant box chucking damage. Aye, that works.



They'd managed to find the sweet spot for bouncing the box. That ended up bending the table bracket.



Flattened & working now though.

A couple of modifications made. Brass spacer to bridge the thin air around the securing bolt between these two pieces, on one of the table brackets.



Plus the obligatory brass thumbscrews on the side panel.



Added a third at the rear end of the panel.





Placed the hole that low so as to avoid the risk of running into the underside of the top, when drilling & tapping. That end of the cover is now well secured.

In Powerplant plant hire I used to make up as well as sharpen no end of chain saw chains , for the 20 fleet hire machines and those of professional chainsaw users using our Oregon sharpener . Most of the time the merest kiss of the stone was all that was needed to sharpen a tooth , it didn't seem to matter much if one tooth was slightly more ground back than the others so long as there was a decent cutting edge on the tooth .
Whilst we stocked chain saw files and filing jigs they were rarely ever sold any as the guys preferred to have a clean sharpened chain or five ready to swap out

I've a 30 or more year old Work zone scroll saw .......
I like the idea of the brass thumb screws for the side panels . I've got a plastic tube with a screw cap that used to hold hundreds & thousands cake decorations , spare blades fit inside nicely , . Putting slightly bigger longer thumb screws in place of the farty 8 mm x 8 mm long screws with " Chinphilpoz " screw heads that no decent screw driver will fit correctly would make it a doddle to store the tubes of blades in the side cavities . Just had a thought .... so might butterfly DZUS clips and anchors ..... will investigate a bit later tonight .

Surely that should be suspended from the head of a door frame so you can do your pull ups
