Yesterday a couple of bits nowt special


a cheapie metal thickness gauge and I can see the scale with my bad peepers , I was getting a bit fed up of going in the draw getting the digi vernier out the box and putting it away every time I wanted to check a bit of metal
and

a nice veritas honing guide normally do the chisels and plane irons by hand but keeping them square can be a bit hit and miss ! hopefully this will be a bit quicker and sharper wasn't the cheapest .

i have one but it's grey.

I got lucky i think. I've only ever used Messer quickys before, they're great machines but this is lighter and nicer to pick up.

In your experience - do all track cutters have the same track width? I've no idea if its different between Koike, BOC, Murex etc.

After seeing them recommended on here I bought a pair of the Piergiacomi flush cutters on Amazon.

I went for a larger set as they can cut 2.5mm & were on offer. Unfortunately the 2 cutting edges don't meet properly with one edge sliding over the other when squeezed hard.

So they are heading back to Amazon for replacement.

Further to this, the replacement pair they sent were even worse than the first pair!
So either they are selling fakes or the larger ones are junk.
Amazon sell identical cutters in the USA, but they have red handles & are branded 'Hakko', even the same model numbers as piergiacomi.

They claim to be made in the USA, piergiacomi claim to be made in Italy, probably all BS & everything is made in China!

This time round Amazon only offered me the refund option, replacement wasn't mentioned! The larger cutters would suit my purpose better as they are rated for thicker wire, unsure whether to order another set or get a set of the smaller ones.

yesterday - An Esab track cutter, for £100. I'm making track from some 6mm ally plate with slots milled in, and I'm converting it to hold my plasma torch.
The other major thing I acquired is in the box behind it... no photos yet.

Powerful than my brushed makita,not quite as smooth running,the motor and gearbox warm very quickly,I checked the gearbox on all 4 ,yet were half full of grease but it was not deposited on the bevel gears,I’ll check again now they’ve been used,maybe needs a lube more sticky?
The switch is poor,needs an arc type movement rather than simply sliding,the disc needs spannering to tighten,rather than the usual gripping of the disc,as a couple of times the disc fell off on last second run down!
Extremely slim body,if they last the warranty it’ll be astonishing value.

A befriended mechanical company had a machine that I wanted to look at - more about the machine another time, I have to show a low profile just at the moment because of it in front of SWMBO ... anyway I like the machine ....

Afterwards we went like we did more than ones before to a cabinet, where things - mainly milling cutters - are stored, which are no longer used there because some procedures and processes have been changed.

One helps where one can, after all, to help friends regain a little more cabinet space.

Some of the milling cutters are used, but most of them have never been on a machine.
