Today I acquired a healthy respect for a 59 plate transit with over 200k miles on it and and a hyster diesel forklift! I have been waiting saving and wanting one for a couple years then this come up 50 miles away for £900 all works as should apart from the brakes.
I am not sure how much it weights but Ime gonna guess it’s a 3 ton one!

Everything was going great until after unloading it I lost the key

Before I burned it I thought I'd best have a quick look inside and imagine my surprise when I found a whole new garden seat.

Even I wasn't expecting that.

It's phosphoric acid based, other additives. Still cheap.

To most, including the shop owner, it is a square lump of glass, with a odd shaped lip.

But to those who know , like me, know what it is.


It is a 1750's (ish) coffee grind glass container. It lives under a bench mounted coffee grinder.


Happy me.

A paper weight, shaped like a vice.

Another one, as some asked to have the use of mine. But I can't find it.

More 3D printer bits

Main parts are scheduled for Monday, but I probably won't get time to get in the workshop until the Monday after :/

Well, i got a certificate to say I turned up.
Hopefully I've passed the 6 hrs worth of exams I've taken today and will acquire the actual qualification to go with.

Jerry cans, but not your ordinary jerry cans, maybe uncle joe cans, or commie cans, since they're from the USSR, and also made from aluminium instead of steel. Actually I've seen people here refer to them as "Alu Jerrys".

I was looking for aluminium because it's does not rust of react with fuel. In a steel can you need paint or protective coating, or it will rust on the inside, and also the fuel reacts with the steel to form organometallic compounds, basically your fuel goes bad quicker. Aluminum has none of those issues, doesn't need any inside coating that could break or flake off. They are not as durable to bumps and such however.

Well, nearly. If you leave fuel with ethanol in there for too long (a few months), when it has absorbed water and starts to separate, it will corrode the aluminium. Might be worth keeping an eye on the length of time you keep fuel in them.

Without water there is little to no problem.

With water, ie absorbed from the air over time, it becomes a problem - hence all the recommendations if you don't use a car much (with aluminium tanks, carb bodies etc) the advice it is to use low ethanol fuel, use a stabiliser, or drain it.

Not an issue if you are regularly using the fuel - it won't have time to absorb much water.

In reality, you probably won't notice much - but it might just be worth an inspection every now and again.

I stopped using a couple of jerry cans from the late 80's as the internal paint was coming off (and one has a slow leak on the seam). But two 1940's war dept jerry cans that I inherited from my dad still seem to be resisting modern fuels well - internal paint still attached. What did bemuse me was the scrap of 1960's newspaper I fished out of one a year or two ago after several decades of using it myself . . .

I'd never thought to examine them internally.

I think mine date from WW2.

some new additions:

My Arboga came with some 386E collets for which there is no holder, they fit into the smaller, simpler dividing head bought with the mill - however, I could not do much with their sizes (25mm-29mm in 0.5mm increments) so far.

Now some handier specimens have fallen into my hands:

Partly little, partly apparently not used at all, light rust probably where the parts were once touched without re-oiling them.

All seven together at a price at which you do not even get a half one new.

Fit perfectly and hold apparently bombproof.

And a 110mm three-jaw chuck from a Weiler.

Looks a bit unshaven and unwashed, but the jaws move fantastically easily, directly and quietly.

At the moment still with the mounted huge Weiler flange, but there is a remedy.

In truth, I don't know for sure if it's actually a Weiler jaw chuck, but I really hope it is, because I'd like to get the missing outer jaws and soft jaws with the help of the designations, and with an unknown chuck that's always a bit difficult or impossible.

The concentricity test is also still pending .....
