Seized piston.

Rust.
Blown Solder joints.

But worth restoring.

Today I acquired this

HGVists will recognise it. About an hour prior I acquired a phone call asking could I look at a trailer as it had failed it’s pre mot brake test. Pre the mot booked in an hour from the call…..

Anyhow got this one off and new one on. Passed no issues.

Orkney HGV/PSV MOTs are a bit different. We have a tester up once every 4-6 weeks. If you fail that’s you off the road till the next time he’s up. If you can get a retest then. There is always a panic when they are up. He is up all week and I’ve been flat out.

A lot of it is they get fitted upside down with the drain hole facing up and spend their lives full of water, found this one on one of our trailers.

That's the one my dad bought me when I was about 8 yrs old. It was a bit unreliable even new but I loved it. He showed me how to rev it up by holding a match under the steam pipe.

Funny nowadays you wouldn't even dream of giving an 8 yr old something like that and letting them loose with it but then we had open fires and knew to watch for embers on the hearth rug etc so being around fire without getting burned or burning the house down was normal even to a child. Eventually it expired and I don't know what became of it.

I now have to measure and compare for parallelism and height - if the hole pattern was right, that wouldn't be all bad either - if that's all ok, I won't grumble about the aesthetics - but I'm getting ready for less aspirational results ...

The pieces in the pictures in the offer of the dealer looked clearly different.

Having a handwheel at the end of the lead screw turned out to be desirable.
It fits, but seems to come from the same dark corner of the city on the subcontinent ...

Let's say: I am less than impressed.
If the parts work in the end it should be good so far - but the stuff also cost money , that was not directly a bargain.

Our problem over here, of course, is that there is no Myford used (replacement) parts (flea) market.

So we must order everything from someone somewhere ...
Buying an English machine in my own country of machine builders - after Brexit - was perhaps not one of my best ideas.

I just love the galloping graduations on the hand wheel ... you'll have to put a comparison list when you get it fitted as what it says on the wheel and what it actually is .

There's lots of secondhand Myford stuff in eBay in the UK. But finding someone to post abroad might be difficult.

Can’t see it in the pic, but the spring is in 3 bits.

If it’s still in the scrap next week I’ll take a better one.

Some el cheapo boots,can’t seem to get more than a few months from these budget ones lol,then they give you wet feet just walking the field,even after a coat of Dubbin ,I think they seep thru the toecap once the steel is revealed.
