look at planer thicknesser for a good reference also could be used as a sander which is more likely what it is

It’s an old mangle. Well, half of one anyway!
not sure what I’ll do with it. I did think about a roller but sometimes it’s easier to build from scratch.

In what way, electrification?
Tricky to have them lit (in her case) using carbide. Academic really, given that she died about 25 years ago....

Acquired an old steam engine lubricator from a neighbour, cleaned it a bit, turned one new wooden knob for it, and mounted it on a simple wood plaque, using a matching bit of threaded pipe to attach it, so no modifications were made to the unit. The only missing parts are one needle valve...and a steam engine. 
It's rather steampunk-ish, I think. I'll probably mount it on a wall somewhere, but the living room is off limits, by executive order from spouse.

Big squander today: saw this on a (relatively) good deal at the weekend so I bought myself an early birthday present and it arrived just in time for the Brundle steel box section delivery that also arrived today and needed cutting up into lengths that would fit in the garage!
