to cheak have aquired a gtech carpet sweeper but no charger

i have cheaked and they say i need 12v and 150mA charger now i got a 12 volt 1000mA charger and pluged it in and it does charge it but get hot and smells not very strong but if you get your nose near it you can detect a electronic smell thats not good

now from memory when using a differant power supply for most items as long as you got the right voltage and more amps than needed it should be all right

eg 12 volt 1000mA you can use a 12v 2.1A charger as the unit your powering will only take what it needs out of the amps so just the 1000mA but as this is for charging not powering does this make a differance eg if i use the 12v 1000mA charger will it try to charge the battery fast hence the over current and hence the smell as its to much for the charging circut ?

the carpet sweeper is not worth much seen them for sale for £20

only want to get it working on one of the chargers i got so i know its fine then will buy a replacment charger of good quality as its for my mum she has problems with her hands and need a light unit to use

So the battery is 1.3ahr so aprox 130mA is what I should be using then that would fit in to the 150mA 12 volt charger they provide when new so was half right when I said I'm using to much amps the charge circuit is not enough for the power I'm providing

You are aware that you are charging a 7.2v set with 12v ! (current aside).

Well I can see 6 cells which being nicads at 1.2v would give 7.2v
If you get the vac sorted then stick some sponge on the front, like a bumper cos the front plastic is quite fragile (mind you the wife does go heavy handed vacuuming), but far be it from me to tell her that as she might suggest I do it .
she has now got one of those shark vacs (it's scary what some of these fancy vac cost )

if it works with a charger i got and mum gets on with it well i might just spend the money and get a new sweeper there £80 new and by the time it replace the battery and charger (the batterys are expensive £20 ish ) but as she has the problem with arthritis and she in 70s it is a good way to try it to see if she gets on with it before spending £80 and find its to heavy or its hard for her to move it

its all a bit daft as i could hover the flat in 10 mins twice a week but she want to do it her self

Thanks for the link, that one will do 25 nicad cells which is 30v. I had a look on banggood, there is just too much choice & I got confused. Most of them are for 15 cells = 18v. It's rare that I work on anything higher than 18v & it seems to be a big jump up in ££ to one that will do 20 cells or more.

I have a few 14.4 & 18v batteries that need repaired & a load of 18v doner batteries to scavenge cells from. One of those chargers would allow me to test & refresh individual cells & packs to see what batteries are worth using.

I might chance one of those cheap ones, I can always tap into a larger pack & charge them in 2 banks of cells. Have you used one of these chargers, are they easy to use?

Got one like my original link in the office. Haven't used it yet but my current lipo charger wouldn't charge single cells.
They get recommeee a lot by the rc crowd so can't be too bad.
Look simple to use.
Most on amazon don't come with PSU I hunted around and found one that did.
Just search b6 charger should pull em up either there or on the bay. IMAX b6 seems most recommended.

I'll have a look tomorrow for you it's a round connector just have to see what power it is and hope I can find it
