in the past ive slackened the wheels nuts right off and drove the car up the road.

Usually have to sledge lorry and farm ones off. Another reason to add to my list of reasons I hate durabite rims.

Sometimes you can get a portapack ram between the rim and chassis and get them that way. Except poxy aluminium rims

That actually looks like a bead hammer? Or is it a splitting maul? Can’t see the head.

For any wheels it's best to clean up the were the wheel sits and grease with normal EP grease and lube the stud thread, nut thread and if they have collets that as well with normal engine oil. If it's a wheel bolt oil the threads. It will tighten correctly and not come loose, don't forget torque is a turning force and that includes resistance of tight threads, one reason for bringing in angle tightening, 1/4 of a turn is 1/4 of a turn even if the threads are damaged. As for copper slip been through that problem several years ago, never use it as it can have a chemical reaction with high tensile steel(wheel studs/bolts) and the cast hub/drum and steel/Alloy wheel that will cause breakage.

When I go to the garage for tyres I make a point of telling the fitter the torque figure and watch him to ensure he checks/adjusts the wrench. Luckily they are pretty good but there will always be one that you have to watch.
