Ok.
I have a GYS Tig168 on the way.
It's 2nd hand, no leads.
I've provisionally ordered a wp17 torch, and I have a 9L bottle of argon
I'll be pretty much exclusively welding 1-2mm mild steel bike chain [which is cleaned by tumbling in ceramic media + paraffin], maybe some 1 or 2mm zintec plate.
I'll need to order cups, tungstens and filler
Am I correct in thinking that I want:
no.7 (ceramic, not glass) cups, 1.6mm 2% thoriated tungstens,
and 1mm filler rod? - Can I use mig wire?
Do I need a "lens"? Would that cause problems with it clogging with fumes if the chain isn't perfectly clean, or from the zinc off the zintec?
i don't want to order a mixed pack and end up with stuff I'll never use.
I already have a 130A mig welder, and a 180A stick welder for welding other thicknesses of MS, and I don't intend to get into stainless at the moment.
As a background: I did aluminium tig at my last job as a "trainee", but never covered any of the theory - I was given a bench, a welder (with one size of cup, one thickness of rod, one size of tungsten, and welder set to "auto") and some 1-6mm scrap and told to "practice". I got to the point where I could build frames from box section/tube tidily enough, including out of position, but beyond that...
