TIG welding beginner, a few quick questions.

12lpm for both? Maybe that could have something to do with it, but I don't think it would make your welds that black, especially if the others turned out ok.

Are you sure that the purge, was airtight on the inlet side? Did you give it sufficient time to expel all the air before you started welding?

Possibly not, infact thinking about it, i probably did this half the time and other times i didn't. So some air present in the pipe was probably the problem.

I didn't think this would make a difference to the front of the welds though.

Sounds likes thats your problem then Rick, it would explain why some turned out ok but others didn't.....its even more of a issue on thin section pipe.

Hmmm possibly, but i doubt it, it's probably the normal 2-3mm.

hi new to tig welding, i have a kempak 150 super,can any tell how to set it up basically so i can practise weld mild steel plate,bar etc, cant start the arc off
