have a dilema...i absolutely must have something fitted to one of my house walls (on the inside) today
i would have had it done sooner but have had an issue with the item so the replacement is coming today.
i am using 12x180mm rawl through bolts because i have used them for a similar application before and i had some left over from then.
i have dot and dab plaster board on top of breeze block and then red brick facing on the outer side. i usually use a blunt knackered HSS bit to break through the board and find the depth of the gap (on average about 20mm in this house) so i can set a depth stop on my SDS drill, however when going through with the hss bit, no hammer action either, it sank straight into the breeze block to a total depth of 130mm...the block turned to dust and i honestly didnt realise it was going into the block it was that effortless to drill in, i first thought i had hit a cavity or a missing block...
anyway, cut a small square out of the board for a better look, even drilled another hole to confirm the block was weak and it the bit went in as before, no hammer just fell in...
i am left with a clean and round hole, its on size and depth is good, however when i hammer the bolt in and then try to tighten it, it just pulls the bolt back out without it gripping at all...
need suggestions on how i can get 4 bolts in and tight before tomorrow morning as i have someone coming to check the installation and it has to pass.
this is what im left with after the 2 test holes, both 12mm and the bolts needed tapping in to get them to depth, but just pulled straight back out without gripping when the nut was tightened
