I may of contributed to that thread being pulled, sorry about that, but I am afraid some people feel a bit more passionate about their country than others, some people don't care a damn and ridicule others, if the subject gets brought up, people will respond, (it doesn't make them a Pratt) politics is in everyone's life don't matter what you do, you cannot escape it, the topic at the moment in most peoples lives happen to be that their country is going down the Drain, and the immigration question/policy, the reasons for it is government policies, as most people who take notice of politics know More than them that don't give a damn, I posted a link for a speech that this man made ''Brian Gerrish'', he is a former naval officer and anti-submarine warfare expert, he is definitely not a crank! he has gone along way at uncovering reasons for what is actually happening to this country and why it's falling apart, if you can bare not to be ignorant, look this man up!

I have to confess I didn't think that thread had reached the point where it needed to be deleted but that's by the by. It's Malcolm's prerogative to delete as he sees fit.
Malcolm's also right to say there's no point pointing the finger of blame. We have all, in some small way, been complicit in creating the situation we find ourselves in. Even the bankers are not entirely to blame. Yes, they may have made a monumental c0ck up but it seems to have been readily forgotten that in the years preceding they made this country (and themselves) a fortune. And as for blaming Maggie, well I shall defend her to the hilt!

Its always curious to me how a mongrel nation built on migration is very quick to chastise workers who come to seek a better life..... why do we not chastise the a British worker in the same way that choses to work and live overseas, or possibly an ex pat retiring to Spain, in a very nice gated community, how many of them make an effort to speak the lingo and embrace the culture........
I could go on but this will only provoke a the "patriots" aka mail readers to hit the moral high ground......

Snowy i would argue the mongrel nation with you, certainly in comparison with other countries of the world. Mongrel Nation is something that has been adopted by the liberal socialists, to make us feel better about immigration.
Of course now we have a global economy, with European travel and the ability to work in other European countries not requiring 'work permits' which means you can be more mobile and go where the work is.

If people are going to talk about the country going down the tubes, they should remember that the rest of the world is doing the same thing right now. And if we don't like our employers taking on folk from elsewhere... well don't blame the government, or the employees... point your finger at the opportunists paying the wages. They're taking advantage, and what's more they're mostly British!!!!

liberal socialist, unlikely from me, more just facts that span back to Alfred the great.....
I know many that are disgusted with the governments stance on work permits, elderly care, repetitive factory, agriculture, forestry, the list goes on by bowing to pressure from media factions such as the tabloids, many in the aforementioned have found it difficult to get the required workers, its not just a cost factor many "British" are too proud, lazy, stupid, or whatever to fill these jobs, the economy relays on them, has for many years......
Australia stopped its work permits a couple of years after I served my time (working there was like doing time as-well) because guess what them basted pomes were coming over there a nicking there jobs, It solved nothing, the Aussies didn't want, or IMHO lacked the necessary skill or work ethic to do em, two years later the permits came back......
The social care is a different argument, I have as little time for a lazy bum, of a born and bred Brit, as i would for someone from any ware in the world, Its a different thing and there lies a massive flaw.... however on that stance its incredibly hard to strike a balance, the American system with little social care is responsible for some of the most violent deprived crime ridden City's in the Western world........

this thread made me think of an incident that happened to me last summer I met this Irish guy who was a casual labour and the small farmer and he was complaining the he could get no work because the Polish guys kept taking it all about a week later I needed somebody for a couple of days so I rang him and you'll never guess what his answer was

I have no problem with immigrant workers they are only here because there is work. the ones that are here for social welfare I would gladly drop in the Irish Sea
I thought I heard this morning that British Steel (chorus group) was laying off a couple of thousand workers I have a brother in law the works for the Dutch side of this company
and instead of layoffs they were going down to a four-day week and the government paying the workers for the fifth day
now that sounds to me like a government who wants to help its workers And are prepared to think outside the box

If we are going to have a rant about the rights and wrongs of immigrants etc, how about this for size, and I promise you that it's true. Mrs B's job is to go around the county filling in forms for failed (yes, that is failed) assylum seekers so that they can claim benefits and free housing.
Apparently it moves the liability from one department to another and so allows the government to dissemble when answering questions.

is it 'the bosses' at fault for hiring cheaper labour or the unemployed local workers at fault for demanding too much cash?
Workers are like tools and materials...a company must go for the cheapest at the required quality to turn out their end product at a price that customers will pay and still make a profit for the company.
It's not much use for a company to turn out carp that doesn't work, bad reputation hits sales.
It's no good turning out a product that's too expensve as that hits sales.
It's not good selling loads of items but making no profit.
Those that do end up with a busted company as so many British firms found out from the 70's onwards.
There was a situation a year or two back where British building workers found jobs in Germany because they could work cheaper than the locals...
the German 'social engineering' was making it hard for their companies to employ local workers.
It's happening here too in so many fields.
I have no problem with any foreign workers coming here and getting a job as long as they pay taxes, etc.
The biggest problem that we have now is caused by a useless government not bringing in 'rules' to control the flow of easy credit. It would have stopped the 'feel good' factor and may have caused them to lose the last election.
Their attitude is 'sod the country as long as we hang on to power'.
The ultimate aim of so many of our politicians seems to be to run down our country as much as possible and then join the Euro. Full rule by Brussels with permanent unelected jobs for all of themselves at vast salaries...
We had 'credit crunches' in the past when it was right for our country. We all moaned at the time...it took me about six months to get my first mortgage (£1750).
The point is that some newspapers (Daily Mail, for instance) have been stating for some years that it'll all go wrong but no-one did anything about it. Some people saw it coming even if Gordon (I've stopped boom and bust) Clown now tries to claim it's a world-wide USA-led problem and nothing to do with him.
