Thread identification

I know that TDR has solved the question ( ) but one other suggestion if anyone faces this in the future; Do you have a tap and die set?

First off, my set actually has a set of thread gauges so you may have these without realising it!
If it doesn't, then gently try the closest visible matches on the bolt / socket and see which does the trick. You have to be sure, of course, that the tap/die isn't doing what it was paid for and cutting a new thread! Any hint of feeling "off" or any resistance likely means it's not the right match.

I have my tin of random stuff, generally know as my 'dirty box'. It's got me out of many a pickle in the past. I have tried an assortment of both metric and imperial but none seem to fit.

At 10 yrs old I started collecting taps and dies spending my pocket money each week at Tracey Tools when they were in Kingston. First I bought the taps managing to get 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10mm diameter but started to struggle with the dies. They are all 1mm pitch!

My tap set has basically every pitch for metric from m3 to m12 and the more common from m14-m20.

I have oddball stuff separate and the bits of imperial I have were bought specifically for a job. I add to them when and if I see stuff cheap, like my engineering merchants had a sale bin and I got some boxes of like 5.4mm and 3/32 drills for less than a single dormer 6mm! They had a few big taps too but didn't get any.

Darn! I picked up a cheapie T&D set many years ago and it's got a variety of pitches.
If I'm not paying attention I end up turning a bolt into a nail by using the wrong one
