Thoughts on using silicone hose for airbox-carb plenum?

I've fitted a Weber 36/32 to my Suzuki jeep. The rubber hose that came with the carb kit is about twice as long as it should be as Weber only make two sizes and just supply whatever is a closest match. It's interfering with the bonnet though and will get damaged with time.

It's a 3" hose with a 60 deg bend, and there's silicone hoses in that size. What do you think of using silicone? It should allow enough movement I think?

Only other idea I can think of is to try to shorten the Weber hose. It's made of rubber with a single wire running in the circumfrance, and finished with rubber fittings on each end. I'd need to pull the fitting off one end, shorten the hose, and try to re-glue. I'm not sure if that would work.

I can't find any universal hose that has smooth ends to create a proper seal.

Silicon doesn't have a lot of stiffness - so it might collapse when the negative air pressure inside when the motor runs.
(That said, it's not a huge motor).
You can get EPDM in various ID sizes which you can cut down.
It can get bought with bends in

You can get various "layer" thickness of silicone hose.
On a bend that size I would think any of the ones you find on ebay would be fine.
It's not going to collapse under vacuum unless the air filter is seriously congested.

Or, as this is a welding forum, make a load of pie cuts in a bit of tube and weld them up to get the clearance you need.
Then put some cut bits of the existing hose on each end as joiners and to allow some movement.

why not get a nice stainless , or plastic bend and do the joining bits in silicone .

Look at the size of the air filter.
There is no way that sj (even with that monster carb is going to suck enough air to pull a hose down.

There are plenty of 500bhp+ nos cars running around that aren't swallowing the cheap ebay hoses so I don't think that little beastie is going to try ingesting one.

The silicon stuff with the spiral wire in is normally sold as a brake ducting hose and its no good for the op.
Just get some 3 ply and be done with it.
The layers are built up over some sort of weeve and that makes them pretty tough.

That's not good.
That means you will be getting unnecessary turbo lag while you wait for the hoses to fill up.
Also, when you throttle off the extra high pressure air stored in the hoses will get back fed into the turbo damping it down which will bugger you up for the next corner.
Make up some alloy ones and do it properly!

Thinking a bit out of the box but can the air filter be lowered say by mounting its front attachment under its bracket?

Try rotating the carb top towards rear to steal some length of the flexi you have now

jubilee clips will compress the ends of the hose with a wire in it (neoprene ducting) and seal them if the hose is of the right diameter .

Doubt that silicon hose would collapse on a NA engine unless the air filter was very restricted as there’s unlikely to be much of a vacuum before the throttle butterfly

I'd just cut the one that's there.
