yes clever that. quite simple but very effective. I was going to have a go at making a tank but for various reasons a bulldozer is easier to make. tracks for one thing. I looked long and hard at both. this is my first build so I went for the easy one. by the way please don't put anymore links to interesting things on I was sat here for nearly four hours watching vids. once I get on that's it I don't go to bed till the sun comes up

I'm very interested to see how you make the tracks themselves, keep up the good work:clapping:.( And don't forget to post more pictures)

Just like the original Sherman where the transmission just bolted to the front of the hull.....

got a bit more done. mounted the front and rear axles and made the flanges that mount the whole track assembly to the body. I've got a 30mm hole to bore through the roller frame. I've just sat the flange and pin on top. the flange sat on it's own is for the other side when it's done

front assembly. when the bulldozer is on uneven ground the track rollers drop down to stay on the track. all the parts need more work (rubbing down fettling) before painting. the welding down the side will be filled over before painting. The front idler assembly is spring loaded to stop damage when a rock gets between the track and rollers or idlers There's a threaded rod inside the spring loaded piston to adjust the track tension. All the track rollers and idlers are on steel sealed bearings. I keep altering this side so feel free to comment or make suggestions

made a bit of progress. bored a hole through the roller frame to take the mounting. made the mounting with the spherical bearing on the end this is what the arms for the blade will fasten to. the mounting will be welded to the roller frame on the inside . also altered the front axle made it 10mm instead of 8mm. I've still to bore out the wheels to take the bigger bearings. ideas and comments are always welcome

thought I would update with some pics. I've not posted for a while. as the title says this will take a while to complete (if I ever do) I'm trying to build a scale model of a Caterpillar D10 bulldozer about 1/8 scale. 3foot six long and around 150kg scratch built no drawings or plans just looking at pics and using a kids toy for general dimentions. ive done the undercarriage for both sides. front axle rear axle. front bar now i'm tackling the track plates

The drive comes from two 24 volt motors one for each drive hub. The gearboxes are is inside the hubs. they are a four stage planetary gearbox. it's going to be radio controlled
