This Odd

This is odd.

Yesterday there was a slight bloom in the oil.

This morning.........

It is spreading through the oil.


The same oil is used in all my lamps, this is the only one turning red.

The stain, or what it is, does not effect the burn, it does not smell.

Is it a bit chilly where it is? Perhaps it's temperature-related. My kitchen is at the bottom of the house and is quite cold some mornings. It can be as low as 13 degrees C and I notice the olive oil changes state at about that point.

I have lookied in the site glass of another lamp.
It is clear.

I ahve looked in the bottles of lamp oil, they are clear.

It can only be related to that one lamp.

I thought that yesterday, as it was in another room. But It is the same in the room with frosted glass.

Has it been run on a different fuel with that wick? Maybe red diesel

It probably had a trace of red dye in it which you haven't noticed but the dye is now separating.
I can't see what else it could be?

The lamp has only been run on clear lamp oil.
Many years ago when I got it. I gave it a good clean, a new wick and recnetly it has had a replacement Polish chimley

But this was noticable from last night.

It probably had a trace of red dye in it which you haven't noticed but the dye is now separating.
I can't see what else it could be?

In the past when I have used die in my lamps. As a date code.
As the oil was replaced with fresh clear or another colour the shade got less each refill.

There is no ferrous metal in the lamp. That tends to satin the oil a poo browen colour. No ferrous turns it green

I can see what it is.

What is more odder.
Is it is not, as yet tracking up the wick.
When I looked the wick in the oil was still a white shade.


A lamp with this length wick shoul have a dry wick to wet wick, on it's length. With a full tank in approx 5 minutes.

That was my first thought, but I have never encountered one that is red and doesn't grow as a film. Google hasn't helped much either.

I reckon it'd be worth ringing his Popelyness. You either need an exorcism or canonising.

Actually I think you might need to be dead for canonising. So make sure you ask for an exorcism.

I had thought that. It is the only lamp that sits in sunlight.
A bug growing or something alive?
