The oil was removed and it stank.
It was rancid.
But it brunt well.

The whole lamp was striped, cleaned and rebuilt.

Fresh oil last night.

This morning it was clear.

It took a a lot to remove the residue from my nose , it was bad.

The fact is stank would leed me to think a bateria or something set up home. It was bad.
So as it was not paying rent, it was booted out.

Just thinking, as oil is a natural product, it makes sense that bacteria can grow in it. could sunlight encourage the growth of it?
