this fixable/weldable ?

hi all, im sure many of you are well knowledgeable in this area of welding.

had a friend call me up asking me to go see him.

his young son decided to hit it with a hammer and broke it.

machine for making mince...

looks like cast aluminium.... or is it die cast...

but is it weldable with AC tig or is it scrap.....

Might be able to fix it with those durafix aluminium brazing rods...just need to be able to heat it up enough. I managed to remake the lug off an alternator with them so pretty sure it would be strong enough.

Tig would probably work but I no nothing about Tig!

Tig would work, its just a location problem. Nowhere near me.....

It may or may not weld, only one way to find out. Tig would be my first method to try but I have had some cast components that seem to be welding nicely and then just kind of explode, for them I have found Mig works better.

Looking at the surface, it looks like sand cast. The actual break looks very grainy, so may not be best quality.

What does the broken bit do ? If nothing critical, its a job for JB Weld ! No risk of making it worse, and digging yourself a hole.

Boy needs a damn good thrashing.

would braze easily with durafix lumiweld rods and a blowtorch and be strong. ive used a few

Speaking from experience i would say that is definitely repairable

yer such a shame ZZR, you once was close but moved up north...

i only have dc tig, so nothing i can do.....

It's hard to tell without a picture from further away but it looks likes a the locking screw that would nip it in place when slid over another part of the mincer. It needs to take a fair amount of strain so don't bother trying any form of chemical metal. Its likely to be removed every day for cleaning.
