I agree, paperless offices and online everything must be putting RM under a lot of pressure, a hike in charges is inevitable to keep it afloat. Probably won’t be here in fifty years from now, I can see the couriers taking over postal delivery in the future.

White van ladies & blokes can collect or deliver for a fee of something like 50p , it's not beyond the realms of possibility for numerous groups of these delivery firms getting together and shadowing the RM but without union interference costs having to be found so bringing it into this century.

I wonder if RM are taking the wrong approach (slightly).
The are supposed to deliver daily.
They should resource to achieve that.
Having done that , they will lilely find they have spare capacituy...

So they can add in the deliveries for others (e.g. Amazon Prime) which they can do at a good rate - they already have the infrastructure and personnel in place.
Sooner tather than later, RM become the deliivery of choice...

I can just remember posting a letter in Norfolk at 11.00am and it was delivered mid afternoon to N. London, on the same day. Bit surprised, even then. Around '71?

Not the first time either.

All I can say is that I’ve never seen anyone sleep sat like that, looks to me like he’s looking at his phone.
Is the other bloke sat with him asleep too? I can just imagine someone sneaking up and stealing something out of the back of a van with two blokes in it…..

It was only him in the van, as I said he was asleep.
I went past him on the way out and noticed the open van, with him in it.
One hour later he was still there.
5 other people also saw him asleep, I know of at least one has reported him or will be reporting him.
This is not the first time he has been seen sleeping.

All this is sad really, the PO used to employ an army of people, and had their own trains. Manual sorting, at least two deliveries a day.

Now they are mostly just delivering flyers, clothes charity bags, and local trade magazines that no one reads.

Still, our Postman comes here in his van, and often stops for a cuppa

We have a brace of posties, they are good at their job. on Saturday One will ask if she can park her van on the lower end of my drive, as parking here can be difficult. Plus. she knows I have good CCTV.

The retired Posty who lives 8 doors down thinks the RM and the Po have gone down hill, her views are very interesting.


My work takes me into a lot of RM sites.
What I have seen would make some on here have a mental melt down.
Drug taking. Steeling to name 2.
recently I was a whiteness into 3 RM staff steeling.

I also do UPS sites, the differance betwen UPS nd the RM is like chalk and cheese.

A few years ago I ordered a pen knife from Heinnie Haynes who is in Wales. I am in Derbyshire and the knife was ordered on Thursday afternoon around 4.00pm. It arrived next day at 10.00am much to my surprise.

In Peterborough ca 1987 at the main post office in the city was a very large priority first class post box and a second class collection box set in the building's wall displaying several time in the day that they would be emptied and taken to the local large RM sorting office a mile away , by the main good inwards gate of the sorting office was also two large collection boxes both showing several emptying time each day . you get your first class stuff in early in th morning and within hours is on a train or truck heading to you , this gave plenty of time for overnight onwards transportation . Then TNT was allowed to enter the postal game and things within RM went down the tubes very very quickly .

The very same year on th September we sent out first email to friends in the USA on our IBM PS1 computer One the better forms of email address became possible we migrated to one at Breathe.com which disappeared about seven months later . Since then our stamped stuff almost dried up unless it was government prepaid or freepost stuff . How we progress indeed , it moves jobs in & out the employment groups .
This Labout government is becoming seriously unpopular for reducing income for many folk .

I wonder how long it will be before a super tax will be placed on all holidays , accommodation & flights in & out the UK to raise taxes or to force people to spend their dosh with in the UK on other things . as holidays are not essential for living but a luxury item

I would release thousands from the current industry jobs , making them open to taking up the millions of jobs that are up for grabs but are not being taken .

Isn't that already happening/proposed, extra, tourist tax being imposed to stay in certain cities/countries?

Last year we had 3 regular posty
2 were fantastic. The third was as useful as an ash tray on a motorcycle.

He was an od timer and didn't care. In the end he was moved to the sorting office.
The ones we get now are good. but teh Saturday ones are hit and miss.
