I cannot stand sneak thieves, it leads to all sorts of ill-feeling between co-workers, accusations, rows etc. Should be hung by their dangly bits when caught.
I seen a "General op" get flattened by a bar when he was caught on the lift where i served my time. He had an ebay page doing great trade with other peoples belongings. I don't bring tools into a job anymore, its the managements duty to supply them imho.
It's all down to the 1% bad eggs as usual spoiling the cake. It's not really fair to youngsters to tar them all with the same brush - all the local kids I've encountered are polite if you acknowledge them.
Small communities seem to get it right more often than not, at least up here, and possibly because more folk are related?![]()
Useless. There are trackers you can use though.Thinking about getting one of those tile things for tracking, hiding it in a tool roll or somehow on a power tool
Do you have a link to any of these ?Useless. There are trackers you can use though.
Smart water.....I don't think it makes a difference, if the police recover them it helps suggest you're the rightful owner but it doesn't prove it. I've got some tools with a name engraved on them, they came from eBay ages ago, I'm pretty sure they came from widow selling her late husband's tools but they may well have been stolen, how can I prove it.
I can have a look after I have been shopping...Do you have a link to any of these ?
Any tradesmen is expected to supply his own tools I've never worked anywhere that was any different (electrician).Yep, you don't go into any other jobs being expected to supply your own gear for company use - I wouldn't go for an office job and be expected to bring my own PC, laptop, etc. I know it came about from people starting out and hiring bays, etc, but it's got no place in modern garages tbfh unless someone wants to bring their own gear in.
Still held onto by the old hands for some reason though, the amount of lads I see that are proud they've blown 20-30 grand of their wages on tools and boxes to wear out on someone elses workshop or garage bewilders me...
Any tool is a personal thing, ask any tradesman (tradesman!) If there is a hammer in front of you and your hammer is on the other side of the workshop, you will go get your own hammer.
It is the way it is.
I've always had tools supplied although I have taken in a few of my own more specialised tools and if they ever got lost or damaged the company has replaced like for like.Any tradesmen is expected to supply his own tools I've never worked anywhere that was any different (electrician).
I wouldn't work anywhere I was forced to use company supplied tools that would probably be Junk.
Your tools or the thieves and idiots?100%, which is why its horrible when some scroat makes off with them to sell for beer/dope money. I used to bring in my own tools to anywhere i went, but one place was such a den of thieves and idiots, as soon as i had brought them in, i took them home again, mind you it wasn't long til i joined them.

I did that - glad I don't anymore - spent too many days/weeks/months/years falsely worrying about the next days jobs to enjoy the benefits, employment is consistent and I can enjoy my non-working time without making calls or making/answering emails. Take-home is ~50% of what it used to be but non-paid work is 0% of what it used to be - plus I get to use all my own kit at work, making my job faster, easier and earn bonus for it.Same.
If you're supplying all your own gear and wearing it out you may as well just take the rest of the risk on too and work for yourself.
