I remember doing some IT work in the old Ford factory in Swansea.
Everything had to be locked up each evening.
I asked what on Earth for? Because the workers would steal anything they fancied. Yes off their own employer and even other workers. I asked about security - they said they could do nothing or the unions would organise a strike.
The mentality of these people

When I worked offshore Australia 20+ years ago we had to use Aussie marine crew on our ships. They were generally decent guys, but night before every crew change they would be down the cold stores and freezers filling their bags with frozen steak, lobster etc etc, ‘for the barbie with me mates tomorra’

When a bag search was mentioned by one of our supervisors the Aussies union rep said that if we did our ship would be tied up at the dock and never work in Australia again. Such was the power of the Aussie seamen’s union back then.

About 20 years ago I had a Peugeot 306 diesel in the workshop that wouldn’t run . On checking I found the fuel system was contaminated, the whole fuel system was cleaned , the pump and injectors reconditioned resulting in a large bill for the owner but before he collected one of his work colleagues came in and saw the car, he asked what was wrong with it, he told me that diesel was going missing at his works on a regular basis so the business owner filled the business tank with all sorts of crap . The car owner lost his job over it

Glad the boys aren’t losing out.

I have the Milwaukee thing on my dugga dugga which lets it’s Bluetooth to a phone. I can set up a geofence or make it make a loud noise. I can also kill it so it’ll never work again.

I didn’t ask for that, they sent the wrong one. I’ve no use for it and in my mind neither should anyone else but in today’s world it is what it is.

Might be worth think of when tools need replacing. I know it won’t help with hand tools. I imagine Milwaukee aren’t on their own now but they were the first.

Job this afternoon was to inspect a building site.
I got there and was not allowed in.
Mr Pie and Mr Key had been in and stolen the fire extinguishers, wireless fire alarm and a power barrow.

Thinking about getting one of those tile things for tracking, hiding it in a tool roll or somehow on a power tool

Get more than one and different makes, so if they find one they will think thats it.
Have heard a few stories where the thieves only take the tools and not the boxes due to trackers hidden about them.

Son is a heavy plant mechanic. Doesn’t get paid a lot, so has to save up to buy tools. We’ve helped him out at times too. He’s got 4K worth of tools, well had. Some scumbag has been robbing his tool box, 1k worth of tools gone. Others have had stuff go too. He’s gutted, I’m furious. CCTV is now being installed in the workshop, a bit late but nothing like this has happened before. Rant over

I would advise him to start looking at your local truck dealerships, as they are all recruiting outside the trade due to difficulty in attracting staff, better money than plant and defo better security.
I would bet the starting money will be better than what he is on now.

Any of the Daf dealers are a good bet, they dont just do Dafs and tend not to so stuck up their own arses!

The trucks shops are poaching the car and van mechs, so the car/van shops are poaching the mrclutch staff, bear that in mind when people go on about fsh!
