30-40% is the figures we have from the last 700 properties, many are getting even bigger savings but it depends on use

Yes, its a tiny molecule (atom?) Compared to methane so likely to leak when nat gas won't. Im told this is the reason it can't go through steel or iron pipes

We are mostly doing social housing retrofits so the cost of install isn't relevant and if we do 10,000 swaps less than 200 will be from gas.
We are removing electric heaters

Also doing an increasing number of plant rooms, schools, leisure centres, fire stations in the next few months. People cleverer than me have done the maths

Although I am doing some new build with heat pumps installed from the beginning, again factor in the cost of new gas supplies and the commissioning side and the difference to gas isn't so far off

They are not for everyone or every property, not yet

Hydrogen can become atomic for passing into metals, … embrittlement etc become an issue… and same with plastics I surmise .. afaik it is possible but I doubt our infrastructure can take it

They are always the difficult middle child. In the right property they work but the unit is more difficult to install and if incorrectly specced they freeze up

However they are cheaper to install, no bore holes or trenches and with split units can be nice and tidy

One of our clients fitted 700 ground source and 100 air source as a trial, we are fitting 1300 ground source for them over 2 years, they have dropped the air source due to difficulties getting the tenants to accept it

Town gas was at least 50% Hydrogen. Much of the gas infrastructure was built to transmit town gas, so I don't see how a change to hydrogen would be all that difficult. However as others have pointed out, hydrogen has to be made from something and making it from electricity to supply domestic heating, does not make economic sense.

The town gas network leaked like a sieve, a large portion of it was changed on the changeover to nat gas

I was around at the time, and pipes for a national grid were put in, but much of the network for moving it round the towns and into homes was left alone.

Have a few friends who have GSHP but in purpose built new properties (ground loops not bore holes) seems efficient with under floor heating Have seen the frozen AS units, our office uses air conditioner (not the most efficient way) in winter for heat you watch the electric used in cold weather consumption goes up as temp goes down
Must be vast No of houses that the owners could A. not afford to fit B. not afford to run.
Sounds like the the electric We have plenty then they were talking about rolling blackouts now we are going to charge millions of cars home heating factories etc.
All nice ideas good for climate & humanity & the world but WE will have to change (when I say WE the world population) our way of life drastically

Usually needs bigger radiators but if you have existing system often they are oversized so not as much change as you would expect

In terms of contract value, my biggest current job is private, being new build we are doing less work than we normally would (we are not principle contractor and are only installing upto the cylinder, no radiators or ufh) and the contract is still bigger

Hinckley B & Hunters ton likely to shut early, 10% not quite so certain now.
Heysham 1 & Hartlepool due to shut in March 2024.

I think we all need to acknowledge that at this point, the French are the European experts in designing and running nuclear reactors.
The fact that China has raised the allowable limits, just because they can't be bothered to shut it down and fix it, is rather worrying... Got to be some sub standard zircalloy cladding in there

I work with young scientists from many countries, China would be high on my list for cheap electronic gadgets, to build, design or partly own a nucleair powerplant; never.
