The great oil drum scam

has anyone else noticed 25 litre drums have been replaced with 20 litre drums.

Is this just another scam to do me out of my hard earned, as in years gone by there was no Sutch thing as a 20 litre drum?

It's been like that for years to my knowledge - jerry cans are 20L, paint is 20L, thinners 20L etc

It's like oil used to come in 5 litre bottles, it now often in 4 litre ones!
Halfords tried it a few years ago and it seems they had trouble selling it as they went back to 5 litre ones! I got loads of old stock 4 litre bottles for peanuts!

I'm guessing it was for safe lifting reasons when they went mad with bags of cement and alike

As said bean like it for years.

It was meant to tie in with H&S regulations on lifting.
Sand etc went from 25Kg to 20Kg and there is talk into making them 15Kg.
So Those wise people at H&S reckoned 1lt = 1kg so they should reduce the weight of the drums of liquids.

But there is good news, it did not reach cable drums.

This it true for water but not other liquids.

So it looks more like the great H&S swindle, I'm not surprised, although those 1CWT bags of cement where a bugger.

I ordered 25litres of methylene Chloride, paid for 25l and got 20 litres. The previous order was delivered in a 25l drum.

That's to save you the trouble of letting it evaporate, as soon as you open the tin.

(I once built a dipping tank 12'x3'x1' for removing paint. Filled it up and stuck some panels in, lid on.... came next day the lot had evaporated )

I always buy oil in cans of 5 litres, stupid selling it in 4 litres, as a lot of vehicles will take 4.5 or so.

The one that made me seeth and properly upset is my IRD needs 1.1 litre of quite expensive oil

I cannot type my reaction to that for fear of being banned

Well that's reasonably sensible as it's 1 gallon or there abouts.

Since the crash in the price of oil the local agricultural merchants has started selling oil in 25L containers at the old 20L price so it's not all bad.
25L of SUTO (Super Universal Tractor Oil) is £44 including the VAT.

They (chemical co) neglected to tell us that. They were quick enough to sell us some more

Mole Valley Farmers, they have about 8 depots around the South West.

I reckon it's inflation control..chocolate bars etc all getting smaller no price change..magic, no inflation...lol, I noticed today that even Etch a Sketch are smaller more than when I had mine in the '60's...
