Yes but I would expect no less from Wales

Yes but I would expect no less from Wales

When I worked at a Daf truck dealer, the maker paid for repair time, and not diagnostic time, so some obscure wiring fault that took hours to find but only minutes to fix! I think this is why people, started to say loom was knackered so the dealer actually got sensible money from the truck maker. The main dealer ( motorcycle) I worked at we were paid 50% of retail labour rate for warranty work by the manufacturer. If car dealers are the same which would you prioritise, warranty or retail customer work?
I'd wager it's more simple than today's simple cars and from experience, yes it's dead easy to work on. Underneath the sales chatter in the wiki text it's a very simple diesel (mine).I know nothing about BMW's but would that be the E61 with,
The E60 generation introduced various new electronic features, including the iDrive infotainment system, head-up display, active cruise control, active steering, adaptive headlights, night vision, lane departure warning and voice control. The E60 was the first 5 Series to be available with a turbocharged petrol engine, a 6-speed automatic transmission and regenerative braking. (Thankyou wikipedia)
All of which sounds dead easy to fix when it goes wrong.![]()

Whats ADAS?The problem is that any that are from 2024 or newer have this ADAS nonsense that either can't be turned off or has to be turned off every time you start it.
I do like the simple looks of the Dacia Duster but couldn't bring myself to own anything with modern Renault guts.
Whats ADAS?
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are intelligent, sensor-based technologies (cameras, radar, lidar) in vehicles designed to increase safety and comfort by alerting drivers to hazards or automatically controlling the car. Key features include automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and parking assistance. They are crucial for reducing human-error accidents.Whats ADAS?

That is the start of the "robot in waiting" - self drive cars....
Free life time charging in England, I guess they kept that a secret from you down there? They’re all for sale in England, I’m not sure anyone’s told you guys you can recharge them yet?
And on top of that....
Further accreditation for the repair of ADAS equipped vehicles
Change a suspension component? ADAS calibration required.
Change a windscreen? ADAS calibration required.
Collision repairs? ADAS calibration required.
'Had the tracking done'?
etc. etc.
So you 'know what you're doing' and all that modern stuff doesn't really need recalibration - fine, wait until the vehicle owner asks you for the calibration pre-check sheet and calibration certificate 'because the insurer wants it'...

Yeah but only via the “Trevor Bayliss” method…Free life time charging in England, I guess they kept that a secret from you down there?

Yeah, that’s the fellaIs he the wind-up radio chap who went skint...?
Yeah, that’s the fella![]()
He was all over the news back in the 90’s, but then kind of disappeared as quick as he appeared - always seemed a kind of typical “bloke in a shed” inventor and hit upon a great idea with a good story![]()

I just had a read. invented the wind up radio to spread info about aids in africa - found it interesting...
ADAS is ADAS, there are many levels of it pre '24 EU regs. maybe the windscreen fitters carried out the calibration & submitted to the ins. co.? Hard to know how as none of them have wheel alignment equipment which is step two in the process...Our 2016 golf has basic adas and we got a new screen fitted locally through the insurance and there was no mention if adas.
But due to the high cost of spares a couple of broken headlights will write the car off![]()
Bought a "Cat D" write off years ago, broken headlight and front bumper had written it off. Nice car that was too.
