I've been wanting to do this for ages but there has always been something else needed first. The idea is to separate a quarter of the barn off and turn it into a snug with a bar. The missus needs somewhere to do her planned permaculture courses so it is going to be a multi-functional area. But being next to the brewery, it will mainly be a bar
My neighbour gave me the timber for the partition over a year ago, he works in an aerospace factory and they are always chucking decent timber in the skip from packing cases. The only trouble is that the 4 x 2 is full of nails and has twists and bends in it and the 15mm ply comes in 5ft square sheets, again with loads of nails. But it was free.
I started the framing yesterday evening, I had drilled the beams the day before. The two doors on the left I acquired about 2 years ago for this, they are just over 2ft wide each so the doorway will be able to take a pallet with ease. The size of the sheets dictated the spacing of the uprights and noggins.
And I just finished the inside of the panelling. More noggins will go in when I get the material for the outside panelling, probably OSB unless my neighbour can get some more ply.
The new room has my screw compressor in it, which will move upstairs to the workshop, plus the pellet boiler to heat the workshop and another outbuilding. I need to add some vents for the boiler.
I have loads of kingspan offcuts that will fill the cavities.
Its currently full of junk but we are having a clear out in the morning. The door to the left is a cellar that I converted into the brewery & farm kitchen and the door on the right is another cellar, this time full of bits of tractor. That will become a produce and bottle store. There is a bar made out of a pallets covered in a skull and cross bones lurking a the back. That will get replaced with something better and less intrusive. The room is about 6m x 5m but a good bit is stolen by the pellet stove and 500 litre heat store.
I'm off to find some timber for the door lining before dinner
Cheers
Andy
