Frost do a really nice shrinker/stretcher combo for a couple of hundred £.
As for what to paint, and with which type, I have to confess I have no idea.
Not knowing if the original is 2k or Cellulose leaves me somewhat at a loss.
I will have to do some research so as to determine the existing paint and go from there.
I will take a look at the overall condition once all together and asses it. I take your point about salvaging the existing paint where possible with elbow grease, Maybe I should do that once all the repairs are primed and flatted and see how it looks.
so if I end up considering a full respray I will see about hiring one or even worse paying for it to be done professionally.
As for keeping the car, definitely. I can't see me ever letting her go. A swap with a 911 wide bodied turbo might sway me though.
I will offer it up this time before welding up the petal cuts.
That way it will be easier to tweak into shape if needs be.
As for seam sealer, I use a PU18 by Bond It (polyurethane)
the weather forced me indoors preventing me from completing the underside with regards to the stone chip.
Still it all helps. Hopefully I will be able to finish the underside this weekend.
I can't see there being many dry ones left.
By the way, how do I manage to arrange text and photo's so that the text appears between the pictures rather than all at the beginning?
After a few issues with the gun being blocked I managed to get a decent flow.
Again, went a bit over the top but figured I have come this far there was no point in scrimping on thickness

Safe in the knowledge that all the underside has been protected,
I thought I had better finish off the other wing. I think I may have found the optimum wire speed,(at last)
which has allowed me to dwell a little so as to achieve more penetration without burning through.
By the way, TESCO'S are selling a nifty little LED torch that when place strategically gives really good light for close up welding. £2.50 Bargain!!!
Seemed to have managed a more consistent level of penetration this time.
I will be dressing down the external welds next, followed by the trimming of the bottom edge.
Once that is done, I shall prime ready for paint. May be tempted to add a little filler just to smooth out any slight dips.
By the way katbloke, are you running a post on your project?
Thanks guy's,By the way katbloke, are you running a post on your project?

so not too much in the way of welding I'm afraid. Still, managed to get her down on all four wheels, Even managed to get her moving,
I was surprised
(and relieved
) that everything works after such a long stand, Brakes, clutch and gearbox felt great. Once I had calmed down,
I took a few pictures of one of the last remaining areas that will need welding. You can see by the photos why I have left it till last.
I have not figured out my approach yet, so it may be a while before I cut metal. Once I have stripped the offending area back to good metal I will have a better idea.
Why can't they be better than you anticipated?
With a little help from some strong paint stripper and a flap wheel I now have a better idea of what I am dealing with.
I am in the process of making some hardboard templates at the moment, in the hope they will help me once I have cut the offending tin worm out. Hope to get all of the corroded steel cut away tomorrow and may have time to do some initial fabrication. Fingers Crossed. If anyone has some ideas of how to best approach this please say.
Why can't they be better than you anticipated?
