Today i ha to weld a ladder for a yacht
So i used this tecnic noboby know it '
Must use an arc welder and two rods, one in the electrod holder, and one as same of tig as filler metal.
So that is results
9/10 mm round box and 13/10 mm flat
2,5 siderotermica citoinox E316L 90A

What’s wrong with just welding it with a conventional technique.
That’s such a nice simple little job I am really struggling to understand why you wanted to hand feed a second rod into an arc when stick welding. If it’s not productive enough step up in rod size.

I've tried stuff like that before your just asking for slag intrusions just do it normally and be happy with your welds

Absolutely. Even if you knocked all the flux off the fed rod you would still likely cause inclusion and porosity problems. The process simply isn’t designed for a cold fed electrode.

Plus the op states it's a ladder for a yacht I would just do it properly and trust the weld if it breaks what could happen I couldn't take the risk

This is for anyone new to welding that saw this and thinks it's a good idea

I think he used a tig rod as extra filler. Not uncommon, pipe welders here do it to fill faster.

To me the weld doesn't look that bad but neither does it look too great.
The question though is why was it done that way?
There doesn't appear to be a huge gap that required filling up so I can see no reason not to just weld in the normal manner with a single electrode.
I often have to do repair jobs on boats where there can be a gap, with no way of physically pulling it back together, and personally I prefer just to run beads down either side until the gap is small enough to bridge, then again I am no expert being self taught so.....

You can do it with minimal issues if you’re a good welder, don’t let the inspector see you do it though!

You need to go way, way over the normal amperage for the size rod you’re using.

Useful when the fitter has left you a massive gap.

Can’t say I’ve ever heard of doing it on stainless though to be honest.

Let's face it if you shouldn't let the inspector See You do it you shouldn't be using it for something structural like the op has

Oh you'd be thrown off an oil rig for saying that. If it gets the job done, pass x-ray and UT, then its a job well done.

Can’t see the reason why you’d do this unless you blown a hole in the pipe to start with, just grind it out and weld it properly, there’s something really satisfying about stick welding stainless, sorry to say this but that’s a poor attempt even for someone that’s inexperienced...

So first question why?
Because i have only 2,5mm inox rods
The base metal is something like 0,9mm and I had to do by using only a buzz box, i have not a tig welder.
Gaps?
There was something like 2mm gap
