personally id just fill with sand or soil as its been dug up anyway if they are removing the stone floor

though it would be just as easy to lay a layer of stone flag down

we have the stone flags in our houses, here ours is stone flag with red ashfelt on it and it does sweat rather well

The dog will love sand or soil, I can picture him now digging away with muck shooting out from between his back legs. Up the walls and everywhere!
Right, thanks for all the suggestions, I'll go with veg oil, sharp sand/cement weak mix for ease. Thanks again.

He walks around it, or crawls over it at the mo. We had an incident yesterday, he burnt his hand on the wood stove. Nasty burn poor little fella.....fire guards ordered and child proofing the rest of the house...so I'm going to wrap him up in cotton wool!!!!

Lay some polythene in the trench and fill with a weak mix of sand and cement and lift out when not needed

Or maybe cheap self leveling compound

Whoops, just read its only 2" deep!

Bit of timber and some GUN foam. Weight it level across the two floors (bricks) until set. The fill the gaps with more and trim the foam flush.

The little lad will have hours of fun picking the foam out and eating it!
