Telescopic Ladders - Good Bad and the Ugly?

I have decided ebay telescopic are out, I understand some are using them and happy to do so but the ocd side of me which demands I review such things before purchase suggests they have a higher risk factor of failing than other style of ladders.

Considering they can have up to 30 locking devices then it makes sense the chance for failure increases, coupled with the fact the majority are coming from China, also the fact a large number of Chinese imported one's were found to be faulty makes the decision easy.

I think the Aldi one may well be a better design but for the same price I can get a pair of strong 6ft double ladders that are a damn sight easier to move around than my heavy set and will also fit in the car when needed.

Aye they're just too damn heavy for daily use. Have to say these triples are lovely and light for a chunky monkey rated set. Being able to ditch a third or two-thirds of the weight when you don't need the height is great.

Dont suppose you know where you had them from....i have seen a number of triples and they have all been too flimsy.

i had up untill a year ago a double ladder was a long 14 or 16 rung one was a lovely ladder nice and solid but when putting on my car would go near the front of the car to over the back was a clima one

i got offered a triple youngmans pro one for silly money off a mate was moving did have no where to store one so said as long as i can use it when i need and on putting it on my car only runs a few rungs over the back and front glass much better and near the same weight

was using it with another mate doing his mums house he then piped up with what happens to your old ladder that was a clima they are the best ladder you can buy

there garbage for site work and stick as soon as u get a sniff of dirt on them and wont operate .ok for a surveyor climbing in to an attic and can put them in his car. that's about it

I borrowed a set from a friend as I was fitting a new lnb to our dish, never again! They flexed so much I thought they were going to break, I didn't trust them at all.

Borrowed a proper set of ladder from my dad next time I needed some, so much safer.

I have the screwfix ones.

Not good for working from, I find they flex a bit to much for my liking.

But when I use them to access high level switches, or into voids etc. I think they are fantastic. Specially if you have a lot to do on one go.

Had them best part of 10 years, not used in dirty sites, so still free and easy. I did bust a release catch, a self tapper fixed that.

Solid right up to max extension . 18 stone in post chrimbo condition .

I have 2 sets.
I thing the ones I’ve had for few years are Draper, fine for lifts and keeping cleaning etc but not a site or day in day out use.
Also I’ve mcallister ones which I don’t like, have to fully extend to use and not as long as Draper, but they kept in the survey corsavan for occasional use.
I have ten sets of ladder in varying length and formats, I would say buy the best you can telescopics, you can’t put a price on your safety.

I have one of those small 3 section extension ladders you see on the roof of burglar alarm fitters cars. Dam good very handy, but doesnt fit in the boot.

used them a few times on site recently didnt feel safe on them and i wasnt carrying anything on them at all

was basic ok for a single floor to a degree for a small set but any higher i want a different pair to use and rather use the 3 way set

had a set like these for years done more or less most things prefer them as well

I like mine for chucking in the landy for putting bits up in trees, bird boxes etc
