Telescopic Ladders - Good Bad and the Ugly?

I have some work to do in the coming weeks that requires me getting on and off flat roofs at about 3mtr high.

I don't want to drag my big ladders around and my folding steel ladder that weighs several tons and tries to chop my fingers off every time I use it is not an attractive option.

So I noticed Aldi have these, I also notice they are around £39 on Ebay, I suspect possibly wrongly the Aldi one's may be heavier duty and I do like the bottom brace on the Aldi version.

I also suppose the Aldi 3 year no argument warranty is a bonus but still a good few quid difference.

Has anyone bought Ebay telescopic ladders and have you found them ok?

i would use them to get in a loft but not for jumping on and off of a roof the sterdyness of a ladder would be better in my eyes

i dont own one just used one a few times and for my fat backside prob not helping

dont know if it just me but from the ebay pic is that ladder flexing quite a lot ? bottem right or is it just the camera angle

I'm scared of ladders. Wouldn't catch me on em lol. Bad enough on industrial ladders

I've a fair few sets of telescopic ladders. Never off eBay, but I can say that they all have a certain amount of flex in them. Once you get used to the flex you think nothing of it, if anything it can make working off them a litte more comfy.

don't know the ebay ones, but only tried once.... never again, total junk in my view, wobbled all over the place and even when the bits "clicked" into place, just didn't inspire any confidence. maybe alright, if you weigh 8 stone wringing wet, I'm nearer 20 stone than 10, and wouldn't go near them..

Brother got one off eBay few year ago he loved it fits in the back of a caddy sets up and closes up in seconds his was used regular up until me other brother tracked our 4ton over it by accident

hmmm mixed views so far, the idea of throwing in the back of the car appealed to me, daughters are always finding jobs just a tad out of reach.

My line of thought is the Aldi version will meet any CE standards I would have thought, where the ebay one's with a CE sticker on is more likely to mean Chinese exports, especially if they can sell them for less than £40 with free p&p.

This may be a 'spend more money' situation.

First time I saw them was many years ago on QVC think they were about £200 at the time.

I have found as you grow older there is a correlation of age to height to damage expectations, there is also a sharp decrease in the % of chance you successfully land on your feet rather than your head.

I am now entering the major damage and headache era of life

I havered over a telescopic set a few years back as I only had the longer 4m double extension and the most deathtrappy stepladder ever. Ended up getting a triple extension with 2m on each section. It's very handy indeed, I very frequently split it into a double and single and it's nice and light and secure. Was just over a hundred quid but having used cheapies in the past it's worth the extra for something secure and well made.

Yeah I was thinking along the same lines now after reading that report, either one of the 3 way folding or small double extensions, like you I just can't be bothered getting my trade quality ladders out each time something is out of reach.

Aye they're just too damn heavy for daily use. Have to say these triples are lovely and light for a chunky monkey rated set. Being able to ditch a third or two-thirds of the weight when you don't need the height is great.

I was surprised how heavy they were, we had a set at my last place, but that was probably down to the quality as my old boss generally bought good quality gear

The Silverline branded set was recently withdrawn by Trading Standards. Can't remember the whole story, but it was to do with excessive twist when extended. The CE certificate was genuine, but that part of the test had not been carried out. I would guess that they are all of the same origin regardless of brand. I would avoid.

these could the trading stanards returns on a palet if you buy enought you could get enought to make a good one

Definitely but also I think the longer section means you have to have heavier gauge. The small section length on the triples means they can be a bit thinner walled.

i poss have a go at aldi/lidl job they as most of time on here get ok reviews on most of there stuff
