Said baffle design. 2 x 80mm discs cut from 3mm sheet, 25mm center holes. I have welded the top cap to the center tube, and the baffle plate to the bottom of the tube. i then lowered the structure into the tank and welded the top cap on. so the baffle plate is suspended inside the tank. It sits below the bottom inlet on the tank.
I certainly need a new machine thats for sure. 60hz just isnt cutting it for somework ive been doing - Not as neat as i would of liked. Water cooling aswell. I tend to Pre-cut everthing in one session, linish session, cleaning session, welding session... doing all the welding in one go takes its toll on the torch, sometimes to hot to touch! Ive warped a few of the copper compression inserts beyond recognition...
So word has got around that i now do TIG welding. I was contacted today by a Local fabrication firm....Asked me to weld this tank together...
Went really well....Just over 2 hours start to finish (That seem OK time wise?) Customer supplied the ally already bent. Fit was about 80%...Some big gaps to cope with as a result (2-3mm) But it went all right.
However, towards the end the Tungsten started to split and spit into the weld pool....The torch was unbareably Hot....I Really need to invest in a cooler i think. But i can't really afford one, and ive got too much work booked in to stop whilst i get one sorted

Turn up the current abit more Giz. Those outside corners look very cold. The weld shouldn't peak on top of the corner it should be the corner. You have done a good job no question but refining and going forward I'd say pick up your current and there isn't a need for all those start stop points. A long run like that you could do easy in one hit. Use all the filler rod learn some feed techniques.
You can see what I mean below. Yours looks colder and peaky not blended as well. Too many stop starts.

Guilty....The stops starts were due to the torch getting too hot to hold. hence my need for a cooler I think.
1300 Stock Car. I did a leak test, and no leaks to be found

Your doing enough work to justify investment. Buy yourself a new kit with cooler and pedal. Speak with @Tom Orrow L about interest free finance. He has some great stuff and you can tailor the payment to suit you. He isn't allowed to advertise or push sales but I've dealt with him and there is no rule stopping me recommending his company. Your quite dependent on your welder now and it's only a cheap starter set. I have got work coming out my eyes to be fair...Enough to say I havnt had a spare evening (after my full time job...) to get the work done.
I know I'm very early into my welding "Career", starting at the ripe old age of 26....But I sensed a gap in the local market for this type of work - And I wasn't wrong...
I need to have a think on getting another machine, as the other half flipped when she learned how much they are...

Even with no TIG experience I can see the difference at the end of the thread. It's amazing how many ali things you see out there that are welded fine but there is no finess or attention to detail.
If it's something that enjoy and it earns you money then a better machine is only going to help that.

I wouldn't get hung up on the 60Hz thing... I've got a hitachi inverter, fixed at 60Hz and the low frequency doesn't hold me back. in fact I can do better work with this machine than my previous 'chinese' variable frequency machine due to the arc stability
