I can't remember what I was "grinding" but the worst I had was when I'd finished cutting the steel up and it was beer o'clock. After a couple I decided to just pop back out and de-burr some bits ready for the next day. Managed to go straight through a riggers glove with a flap disc of all things. No mangling just a bloody, friction burnt, sore patch.
For 40 odd years I'd also always removed drill swarf with an ungloved hand. Just sort of knocked it off. The one day I thought "I've never managed to cut myself doing this!".....I did.
