Yes. Cast iron table. Cast Ali tables are stable. Enough.
Yes more substantial fence. Easily overcome by checking setups for critical cuts

Bigger motor is nice but the contractor saws have plenty of guts for what Malcom needs and the benifits of being able to pick it up and use it elsewhere when required and get it delivered during lockdown far outweigh the small benifits of old iron

You don't need old iron to cut dados either

I owned the makita and hated it and replaced it with a Starite which i found a far better and more stable machine

However i accept that the makita is more portable and just as capable and just as accurate

is available tomorrow and comes with a warranty

Probably usually things like that that let them down . Made my own last time around.
Easy enough and makes modding for certain tasks easy.

why not get a 3phase 3hp startrite 275 damn good saw and convert it with an inverter it will use less electricity to the same saw single phase mate as in pictures I've put the inverter in a box so no dust will enter the inverter

Picked one of these up for a ton a few years back.
Have a decent fence in the shed to fit on it and it's perfect for my occasional needs.

I have a Scheppach 4010 and it is dead accurate, rock solid, easy to move on castors and best money I have spent in a while.

Easiest upgrade on the MLT100 is to change the Makita fence extrusion for an 80 x 40 aluminium one. Considerable increase in stiffness.

I've been having a look at eBay. A few nice things that are missing the riving knife - good to see people staying safe there. A fair bit of it is 240V though. Would have to find if couriers are still doing their thing.

Might be impractical at the moment as I wouldn't be able to get it into the workshop by myself.

Won't rush in - will have a look and see whats about. Also have the option to weld some 6mm under my current was table to keep it straight.

with the stay in ive gone down the homeamde route as i know saw tables are only good for site work

i understand that part of it so a homemade item is just as good

theres some beautys that are homemade and yet are as good as the cast iron type yet made out of wood

If it can stay set up in the middle of the shop id buy an old startrite, wadkin or similar high quality cast iron machine

I do own an evolution rage cheapo folding site saw and i couldn't be happier with it, ive done some joinery and carpentry tasks with it, today its been ripping down 4*2 into 30x50 batten. (shops shut all i have) its really brilliant.



These example of a job it completed. All the rebates are cut on the saw plus the tennons.

They aren't quite as difficult to move as you would think

I moved mine by turning it upside down and then a sack barrow

all ways use a riveting knife or if you choose not to take a look on utube and see what a kick back does then you will soon be using a riverting knife they are there for a reason

yeah i looked at the 2704 as the fence was rock solid but even 2nd hand ones they were asking a lot of money the dewalts are good also you need to buy the stands for them as well if you haven't much space

On the other hand it would be nice to have something accurate as there seems to be paid work out there for fanciful out of the ordinary creations and I'm thinking about a career change as my job won't start up for a year or two after everything has finished.

Id advice against a career in joinery, market is pretty well covered though if rent isn't a problem it certainly could work.

I have a single phase Wadkin AGS10 that I need to sell on, it has fence and extension table. Only caveat is that it needs a 16 amp blue plug, they usually come with 2hp motors but I've installed 3hp one when I converted it from 3 phase. It's taking room up in the barn that should be the bar, I already have an AGS12 now and 2 Wadkin PKs to renovate so its surplus. Its had a new new coat of paint and is fully fettled.

Julian. What sort of price are you talking for this saw I would be interested if in my budget

I have a wadkin ags10 that has been on my to-do list to get around to selling for about a year. It's 3ph, and will require some time and effort, but, essentially not loads.

Would be under your budget, probably even with transport and the elektrickery for the 3ph (but, in truth, I don't know what they cost)

But, again, you would have to want a saw like that. Somwhat different from the other ones menting mentioned.
