Sykes Pickavant Series 1500 ram

Hello
I have a Sykes Pickavant series 1500 hydraulic ram that is not working very well.
Does anyone on here know how to dismantle these so I can check out its internals?
I know I can buy a seal set with instructions but would like to take it apart before I buy the parts to see if its worth repairing.

When you say its not working very well, that is not very descriptive, what is it doing/not doing/ syptoms?

Crikey Normspanners since when does a bloke need a real reason to take things apart But to answer your question it is not applying pressure as I think it should do. Its part of a set I bought for a good price sight unseen so you get what you pay for.

If there is no leak then lack of pressure is more likely to be the pump or valve.

Ah, I see its a grease powered pump.

The diagram and advice how to take it apart was great. I dismantled my ram today and cleaned the innards. When I reassemble it dry (with a squirt or 2 of CRC) it is airtight so I think my seals are ok. I can wind the pressure screw in and with air inside it moves the plunger. It probably did not have enough grease in it.

So my next question is do they use a special grease or will any high pressure grease do?

The pressure screw has a bend in it up by the tee bar so I might get a 7/16 UNF high tensile machine screw and make a new pressure screw.
